MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Nutrition and Health Expert is responsible for:

Key responsibility 1:  Support the process of revising the national protocol for wasting management and prevention

In coordination with the consultant leading the wasting guideline revision, the Nutrition and Health expert will be responsible for:

  • Support the program in setting up a technical working group for the revision of the guidelines;
  • Support the program in the development and discussion of a national plan and budget for the revision and dissemination of the national protocol;
  • Collaborate with United Nations agencies (WHO, UNICEF, WFP, FAO), IMAM technical working group and other key nutrition and health stakeholders in Nepal, at all stages of the process of revision, validation and dissemination of the national protocol.;
  • Collect and analyse nutritional and health data from other partners (NGOs, UN agencies, government structures) before and during the process of revising the national PCIMA protocol;
  • Follow up provincial level recommended actions from Gap Analysis Workshops and gather continuous feedback from the field on the implementation of the current national protocol (this takes into account the preventive/community, psycho-social-nutritional components) and prepare a list of aspects to be discussed during the revision of the protocol;
  • Contribute to reflections on the results of nutrition researches and initiatives (especially MWI and assessments listed in mission 2 below) carried out at the country level and at the global level to support the directives toward wasting in country  based on scientific evidence;
  • In conjunction with the technical referent on MHPSS at HQ, highlight the aspects of psychomotor stimulation and psychosocial activities to be tailored for Nepal context within the wasting guideline framework and in line with 2023 WHO recommendations on wasting. As per needs, in conjunction with FSL and WASH advisors at HQ, ensure that aspects related to WASH and FSL be integrated within discussions and considered accordingly. 
  • Organize and actively participate in all workshops and other activities (field visits, supervisions, workshops, training, etc.) planned as part of the process of revising the national protocol and disseminating the new directives;
  • Ensure effective communication and information sharing within the ACF team by following the current communication plan.

Key responsibility 2: Manage, monitor and support the process of Coverage Assessment and Anthropological Studies

In liaison with the dedicated consultant for coverage assessment and with the HQ community engagement advisor:

  • Support the recruitment, the training and the follow up of assessment teams and/or local researchers for both studies
  • Support desk review in identifying key documents and existing tools 
  • Support the assessment/study teams in planning and implementing field data collection. Ensure rational use of resources for implementing both studies optimizing planning especially for data collection.
  • Supervise the implementation of studies in the field and report/feedback challenges to ensure timely re-adjustments as per needs
  • Support the assess quality of data collected and reporting, identifying issues that need strengthening and providing guidance for improvement;
  • Provide support in studies report development and finalisation (both coverage and anthropological studies).

Key responsibility 3: Support the revitalization of the Civil Society Alliance for Strengthening Nutrition in Nepal

  • Technically support the Civil Society Alliance for SUN in Nepal on issues relating to the revision of the new national protocol;
  • Contribute to the training of national organizations as per needs
  • Participate in meetings and workshops organized by MSNP, FWD and Civil society related to Nutrition and health as per relevance

Key Responsibility 4: Ensure effective logistical and financial management of the project, in conjunction with the managers of these departments

  • Establish purchasing needs and ensure the ordering of everything necessary for the implementation of project activities;
  • Optimal monitoring of the project budget, reporting all alerts to Admin Co and CD

Key responsibility 5: Participate in the representation of ACF and promote its positions in the field of nutrition and health at the national level

  • Represent ACF in various meetings/meetings/workshops in the field of nutrition and health;
  • Ensure effective partnership, coordination and collaboration with national health authorities, NGOs, UN agencies and other international partners in project design and implementation.

Key responsibility 6: Other

  • Proactively support ACFs commitments to gender equality, child protection and disability sensitivity
  • Comply with Safeguarding Policy and the relevant annexed policies, which fall under its scope.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Master’s degree in Public Health or Public Health Nutrition or equivalent with at least 4 years work experience in nutrition and public health of which 2 years should be in management role 
  • Experience of working in Community / Integrated Management of Acute Malnutrition (C/IMAM).
  • Demonstrate experience in starting new initiatives 
  • Strong skills in coordination and the ability to work effectively with a range of stakeholders, including Ministry of Health and Population, nutrition cluster, nutrition sensitive/adjacent sectors, and other partners 
  • Strong communications skills (both written and verbal) at a level appropriate for working with government and other high- level stakeholders
  • Ability to analyze diverse information and develop recommendations for an appropriate response to emergencies 
  • Demonstrate capacity in delivering high quality workshops
  • Ability to travel around Nepal as required
  • Sensitive and responsive to Gender, Age Diversity and Social Inclusion
  • Excellent standard of written and spoken English and Nepali 
  • Excellent computer skills including navigating email, internet and MS Word and Excel
