TAMAGI MUSEUM AND LEARNING CENTRE

Tamagi Museum and Learning Centre (TMLC) is a livelihood museum in Tamagi, Kaski, Nepal. 

TMLC has its focus on sharing the local way of life shown through exhibitions, demonstration fields, craft demonstrations, and a guided nature and culture tour of the nearby area and the religious sites.

The target audience for TMLC are school children, students, researchers, and people with family ties to Tamagi and its neighboring villages – many of whom are living abroad – locals, organizations/associations as well as foreign and domestic tourists.

POSITION: Job title: MUSEUM ADMINISTRATOR AND GUIDE

General Function: Provides visionary leadership, development, management and guiding of a dynamic community-based museum.

LOCATION: Tamagi, Kaski, Nepal

TMLC provides lodging in a staff quarter.

TERMS & CONDITIONS: 3-year contract (renewable). 3 months trial period. Salary on agreement.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. DEVELOPMENT (20 %-time commitment)

  • Serves as museum spokesperson: Leads and coordinates the museum outreach, and serves as an ambassador to the local communities, partners, and stakeholders.
  • Develops and cultivate relationships with schools in the local area to attract school classes.
  • Develops and cultivate relationships with tourist organizations to attract tourist groups.
  • Represents TMLC through presentations and attendance at professional meetings; development of  
  • Professional contacts; and participation in community boards or committees.

2. ADMINISTRATION (20%-time commitment)

  • Manages day-to-day operation of the TMLC.
  • Sets up activity- and marketing plans.
  • Leads, supervises, and evaluates performance of museum staff.
  • Participates on Board meetings as a secretary.

3. PROGRAMMING AND GUIDING (60 %-time commitment)

  • Runs the educational programs for the school students.
  • Organizes program partnerships for farming craft demonstrations and storytelling etc., to ensure 
  • mutually beneficial relationships.
  • Guiding of school classes, tourist groups and other visitors.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Formal knowledge of eco systems/biology/botany
  • Interest/knowledge in local cultural heritage
  • Guiding experience
  • Experience from teaching/ communicating with young students
  • Personal initiative
  • Coordinating and mobilizing abilities
  • Working language: Nepali and English
