About Us
NEEDS Nepal is a non-profit, non-governmental a social organization that has been actively working in the social sector for the past 27 years. The organization was established in 1999 as a youth group and has since then engaged in various social transformation, good governance, and development initiatives. NEEDS Nepal is registered with the Government of Nepal and has partnered with numerous government, I/NOGs, bilateral agencies to implement programs that focus on empowerment, socio-economic development, and social transformation for marginalized and vulnerable communities such as children, women, youths, persons with disabilities, Dalit, and Janajati and other marginalized.
Project Brief
NEEDS Nepal, in partnership with Oxfam in Nepal, has been implementing “Strengthening Community Preparedness, Rapid Response and Recovery in Nepal (SCOPR3)”. The project started in January 2024 and will be completed in December 2026. The project is being implemented in 40 different communities disaster management committee (CDMCs) of four municipalities of two districts Beldandi RM, Dodhara-Chandani municipality and Bhimdatta municipality of Kanchanpur and Parshuram municipality of Dadeldhura district. The purpose of this project is to ensure that communities affected by recurrent disasters in highly vulnerable areas have enhanced capacities for disaster preparedness, response, and recovery, and are better equipped to co-lead on relief and recovery efforts in collaboration with local authorities.
NEEDS Nepal is seeking a qualified and dynamic with experience on livelihood and enterprise development candidate for the project.
The summary of ToR is given below:
Job Title: Livelihood and Enterprise Development Officer (LED-Officer)
Location: NEEDS-Nepal Central Office, Kanchanpur
Post holder reports to: Project Coordinator, SCOPR3, NEEDS
People’s management responsibility: Yes; Social mobilizers
Project Name: Strengthening Community Preparedness, Rapid Response and Recovery (SCOPR3)
Project Locations: 40 communities from Parsuram municipality from Dadeldhura district, Bhiagmdatta municipality, Beldandi RM and Dodhara-Chandani municipality from Kanchanpur district.
Job purpose
To strengthen the economic resilience of vulnerable and disaster-prone communities- particularly women-by supporting local enterprise and livelihood development so they become more financially stable and better able to withstand disaster impacts.
Specific task and responsibilities
- Business Development: Identify and assess potential business opportunities within the community. Facilitate the establishment and growth of enterprises through market research and analysis.
- Strengthen the Value chain: develop the value chain and strengthen as per enterprise. To promoting the enterprise and create the enabling environment to strengthen the value chain.
- Organizational Strategy and visioning: Develop the Livelihood and enterprise sector strategy of organization for sustainability. Capacity development livelihood and enterprise resource material preparation.
- Capacity Building: Provide training and workshops to enhance the skills of entrepreneurs. Offer guidance on business planning, financial management, and marketing strategies.
- Financial Assistance: Assist in securing funding and financial resources for startup businesses. Collaborate with financial institutions and government agencies to facilitate loans and grants.
- Networking: Build and maintain relationships with local businesses, government agencies, and non-profit organizations. Connect entrepreneurs with relevant stakeholders and resources.
- Livelihood Improvement: Implement programs that contribute to the improvement of livelihoods in the community. Focus on sustainable and inclusive economic development initiatives.
- Monitoring and Evaluation: Develop and implement systems to monitor the progress and impact of enterprise development programs. Evaluate the effectiveness of interventions and make recommendations for improvements.
- Community Engagement: Engage with the local community to understand their needs and aspirations. Foster a collaborative approach to enterprise development, involving community members in decision-making processes.
- Market Access: Facilitate access to markets for local products and services. Explore opportunities for partnerships and collaborations to enhance market reach.
- Sustainability Focus: Promote all dimensions of sustainable business practices (technical, social, environmental, political commitment). Encourage the adoption of ethical and socially responsible business approaches.
- Data Management: Maintain accurate records and data related to enterprise development programs. Use data for reporting, analysis, and informed decision-making.
- Educational Initiatives: Develop educational initiatives to enhance the entrepreneurial skills of community members. Encourage a culture of continuous learning and adaptation.
- Additional: as per immediate requirements and requested by your line manager.
Requirements
- At least bachelor’s degree in agriculture and relevant to micro-enterprise with having minimum 2 years experiences in micro enterprise and livelihood related projects as a officer/Project Coordinator.
- Possess working experiences in Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) projects and hold knowledge on correlation between DRR and livelihood will be asset.
- Good experiences in all aspects of rural sector micro-enterprises development.
- Report writing skills in English and Nepali both language.
- Coordination skills with pertinent stakeholders.
- Basic knowledge on MS office package, and Canva.
