POSITION TITLE: Partnerships and Communications Coordinator (national position)

LOCATION: Kathmandu, Nepal with travel to districts

REPORTS TO:  Private Sector Engagement Specialist 



Nepal is a source, transit, and destination country for various forms of human trafficking like sex, labor, and organ trafficking. A 2014 report estimates that 230,000 Nepalis are subject to slavery at any given time, and nearly 30 percent of the economically-active population is unemployed or underemployed.1 USAID’s Hamro Samman is a five-year program generously supported by the American people and implemented by Winrock International. It seeks to build the capacity of and facilitate coordination among the GON, civil society, and private sector to combat human trafficking in Nepal.


Hamro Samman is building partnerships with the private sector to increase access to services for peo[ple at risk of being trafficked and trafficking survivors. Particularly, Hamro Samman is partnering with private sector companies to increase access to information to help reduce the risk of trafficking and to increase access to services such as skills-building and livelihoods. The Partnerships and Communications Coordinator will work under the supervision of the Private Sector Engagement Specialist to support the successful implementation of the private sector engagement activities for the Hamro Samman project including supporting innovation challenges, livelihoods activities, skills-building and outreach. This role will also involve taking the lead on developing a strategic communication campaign targeted at changing behaviors to reduce the risk of human trafficking in the foreign labor migration process and in the entertainment sector within Nepal. In addition to supporting the work of private sector partnerships, under the supervision of the Chief of Party, the Partnerships and Communications Coordinator will be the primary communication focal point for the project, providing technical support to the project’s government and civil society partners on strategic communication initiatives and ensuring the visibility of project activities.


  • Develop and establish strong working relationships with private sector partners under the guidance of the Private Sector Engagement Specialist
  • Support private sector partners to successfully implement activities including but not limited to an ICT innovation challenge and the resulting ICT solution; livelihoods training and a communications campaign
  • Provide programmatic coordination and technical support for all private sector engagement activities ensuring quality, timeliness and integration with other project components
  • Engage in the monitoring, evaluating and reporting on all private sector partner activities
  • Conceptualize and lead the development of an integrated mass-media campaign to be rolled out by private sector partners focusing on reducing the risk of trafficking in the foreign labor migration process and in the entertainment sector
  • Provide technical support to the project’s private sector, civil society and government partners in developing and implementing effective communication strategies to counter human trafficking
  • Design and produce quality audio and visual materials including photographs, short videos, brochures, banners, and social media posts
  • Coordinate project events, liaise with media and develop press releases and external communications
  • Ensure implementation of the USAID branding and marking plan
  • Edit all project documents prior to publication to ensure consistency and accuracy
  • Other duties as assigned


Education:Bachelor degree in communications, marketing, international development or related field.

Technical:Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in communications, marketing, public relations.


  • Experience supporting the project cycle (programmatically)
  • Experience in behavior change communications;
  • Experience in developing effective communication campaigns and measuring results;
  • Design experience


  • Strong program management skills
  • Excellent networking skills
  • Ability to engage in desk research to determine communication themes and messaging for advocacy campaigns to prevent trafficking in persons
  • Strong training and presentation skills, with the ability to represent the project in public forums
  • Experience enlisting media practitioners and other key stakeholders in planning and executing major events and campaigns
  • Experienced utilizing appropriate traditional and social media to achieve objectives
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and Nepali required
  • Excellent visual, design and formatting skills with strong attention to detail required
  • Advanced computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Editor, Movie Maker and Powerpoint
  • Technical experience or knowledge of human trafficking, labor migration and related themes preferred

Analytical skills: Ability to analyze information and solve problems with excellent attention to detail.
