EL COMEDOR Giordano Liva

El Comedor Giordano Liva is an Italian non-profit association established in 2002 which vision and mission are to promote solidarity through meaningful participation. The association’s goal is to support the development, growth and wellbeing of marginalized, and vulnerable groups with a particular focus on disadvantaged children and migrants. The specific concept of “integral development” that El Comedor wishes to promote, aims at strengthening individuals awareness about their own rights, whilst enhancing skills development. Therefore, the association tries to feed the "hunger", not only for food, but also for growth and critical development of the communities El Comedor works with. At present, the association through the project “GIORDANO LIVA” in Perù, supports the education and access to health of 300 students aged 3-16, while in Italy promotes education for migrants who want to learn Italian language and integrate themselves in local communities.

Recently, El Comedor is implementing “TRIS – SATBISE SAFE SCHOOL” project in Nepal which aims to rebuild part of the Uttargaya Public English Secondary School (UPESS), destroyed by the earthquake of 2015.

TRIS PROJECT

The association EL COMEDOR “Giordano Liva” , since 2018 , supports the “TRIS – SATBISE SAFE SCHOOL” project, in collaboration with the “Per i bambini di Satbise” association, Cenaia (Pisa), founded by some members of the Pisa Fire Brigade Department. First aim of TRIS project is the reconstruction of the “Uttargaya Public English Secondaary School” (UPESS), in the small village of Uttargaya, in the Region of Nuwakot, deeply destroyed by the earthquake of 2015. In 2018/19 the first step of the project has been realized by the reconstruction and the refurbishment of two classrooms (block C) through contributions from the "El Comedor" association.

In 2020, thanks to contributions from Waldesian Evangelical Church and “El Comedor”, other four classrooms will be restored and furnished (Block A).

TASKS:

The consultant will monitor the start-up and implementation of the “TRIS-SATBISE SAFE SCHOOL” project, coordinated by the Italian association El Comedor Giordano Liva and co-financed by the Valdese Evangelical Church, Otto per Mille funds.

He/She will:

• monitor the project on site, in particular the correct use of the funds allocated to Uttargaya Public English Secondary School (UPESS)
• ensure a correct reporting (ref. Guideline for OPM reporting 2019) in respect of deadlines and workplan
• provide recommendations on the filling of documentation to the UPESS school managers
• provide any translation that will be necessary from Nepalese to English or to Italian documents
• collaborate closely with the Directorate of Uttargaya Public English Secondary School (UPESS) and with the project coordinator in Italy.
• Support in country visits from El Comedor members in monitoring the implementation and progress of the project
• In the event that critical issues are detected, promptly inform the Italian coordinator in order to agree on solutions and improvement proposals.

The consultant is required to work at least 10 days per month, approximately 50% home based and 50% field work at the UPESS school in Uttargaya (for the first phase, it is planned to carry out 1 monthly mission in the field, while subsequently - in the absence of particular problems - missions can be carried out less frequently). It is also required to make periodic skype connections with the coordinator in Italy (at least 1 per month).

The expected salary is € 200.00 gross per month, including any social security contributions and travel, board and lodging expenses.

The duration of the collaboration will be approximately 13 months, from December 1, 2019 to December 31, 2020 and it will be part time.

EXPERIENCES AND SKILLS:

• Good knowledge about Nepalese culture
• Fluent in Nepali
• Relevant experience in overseeing construction work, as building contractor or property developer
• 3 years experience in project management with particular focus on monitoring activities and budget management
• Ability to draft financial monitoring reports
• Ability to use common computer programs, in particular Excel
• Experience in management of building reconstruction projects
• Preferable knowledge of Italian language, written and spoken

The selection procedure will follow these 3 phases:

3. The contract with the selected candidate will start approximately on 1/12/2019.
