World Vision International (WVI) Nepal is a part of the World Vision International global partnership operating in nearly 100 countries. WVI started its long-term development programme in Nepal in 2001 to contribute for well-being of children. At present, WVI Nepal has long-term development programmes in 17 districts, namely Udayapur, Sarlahi, Mahottari, Rautahat, Sindhuli, Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Lamjung, Jumla, Kailali, Kanchanpur, Achham, Doti, Dailekh, Jajarkot, Banke and Bajhang across the seven provinces of Nepal.
We are seeking an experienced professional to lead the design, development, and operationalization of innovative, technology-driven, and systems-based solutions that strengthen disaster preparedness, anticipatory action, response, and recovery across Nepal. This role will drive the full innovation lifecycle from ideation and co-creation to prototyping, testing, implementation, and scaling, ensuring that solutions are practical, contextually relevant, and grounded in human-centered design principles. The position will contribute to WVI Nepal's commitment to enhancing the resilience of vulnerable communities through innovative humanitarian and development approaches.
The Innovation Coordinator will lead the development and application of innovative solutions in areas such as early warning systems, geo-hazard mapping, risk analysis, rapid needs assessments, digital data collection, and data visualization to support evidence-based decision-making. By integrating digital technologies, data systems, and user-centered design approaches, the role will strengthen disaster risk management capabilities and support government and humanitarian stakeholders in shifting from reactive emergency response to proactive and anticipatory disaster management.
The position will also lead the establishment, rollout, operation, and continuous improvement of the Disaster Assessment and Response Tool (DART) system. This includes providing day-to-day oversight of the digital platform, ensuring its functionality, adoption, maintenance, and continuous enhancement. The Innovation Coordinator will work closely with government counterparts and relevant stakeholders to promote institutional ownership, strengthen capacity, and facilitate the long-term sustainability and eventual handover of the system for broader national use.
Contract Duration: 8 months (Contingent upon approval of funding)
Preference will be given to candidates who are available to join at the earliest.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Disaster Assessment and Response Tool (DART) System Usage
- Oversee implementation and usage of the DART System.
- Oversee training to end users to use the DART system for assessments and distributions.
- Provide online support to end users for system usage
- Manage the upkeep and maintenance of the system including conversing with the service provider.
Disaster Risk and Hazard Support
- Ensure all disaster risk assessments in the target areas are conducted.
- Oversee disaster risk assessment and hazard data entry into the system.
- Oversee the process of cleaning data to ensure system accuracy.
- Support in the creation of the disaster risk, hazard, vulnerability, exposure, sensitivity, and adaptive capabilities index to be used in the system.
- Monitor and ensure data accuracy in the system and indexing process flagging any abnormalities.
- Support field teams and coordinate with vendors for geospatial assessment planning and rollout including supporting in approvals.
- Generate reports based on the assessments and system output identifying hazard prone areas as well as vulnerable households.
Anticipatory Action & Response Support
- Ensure planned CVA/MPC activities are implemented in line with WVI and government standards.
- Support in providing data based on vulnerability index leading to selection of the households.
- Support in beneficiary selection processes based on system data.
- Support in providing data from the system to inform decision for anticipatory actions, including mitigation measures.
- Support in disaster forecast correlation with project working area.
- Ensure functionality of the DART System to respond to disasters or pre disaster distributions.
- Support in additional beneficiary management from the field for ad-hod distributions.
- Support in including data for vendors into the system including creating templates for field teams to collect data.
- Ensure data accuracy and validation in conjunction with project teams.
System Maintenance
- Oversee the day-to-day functionality of the DART System, ensuring usability for all project members.
- Coordinate with vendors for system maintenance and timely updates.
- Coordinate with vendors and internal teams for data protection processes.
- Coordinate with IT, SCM, and Operations teams to ensure proper approvals and processes are complete to ensure system operation.
- Ensure data is backed up for minimal disruption.
- Support in the training of field teams for system usage.
Innovation Support
- Support in the Innovation Process for the project.
- Support in the Human Center Design (HCD) workshops at the filed level with youth and community members.
- Support in the rollout of Innovation process at the field level supporting with system-based data provisions and evidence.
- Support in innovation prototyping and testing at the field level.
- Support in other Innovation Lab projects and deliverables where necessary as per need.
Project Administration
- Ensure compliance with WV policies.
- Support in other tasks that may arise in the duration of the project in coordination with manager and matrix manager.
KNOWLEDGE/QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE ROLE
Required Education, training, license, registration and certification
- Bachelor's degree in IT, Engineering, Software Development, Disaster related subject, Business Administration, or related field.
Required Professional Experience
- At least 3 years of experience in the related field.
Preferred Knowledge and Qualifications
- Proven willingness to learn about new and evolving technology
- Proven track record of managing activities, resources, equipment, and information to ensure excellence in operations in complex project environments.
- Strong creative capacity across communications and problem solving, and the ability to challenge the status quo through creative and design processes.
- Ability to work with interdisciplinary teams to craft and deploy solutions.
- Ability to communicate complex information to a non-technological audience.
- Experience in troubleshooting and fixing technical problems.
- Experience in web and mobile application development and maintenance.
- Experience with disaster risk response programming, geo spatial technologies, and cash programming.
- Fluency in speaking and writing in Nepali and English
Travel and/or Work Environment
- The position will involve travel and fieldwork as required. Response project working hours could ask for commitment beyond the 9-5 working hours.
