Individual Consultant – Green Hospitality Standards / Roots of Circularity

Wildlife Conservation Nepal (WCN) focuses its activities on promoting sustainable approaches to natural resource management and green-tourism in Nepal, working cohesively to transition toward a circular economy that minimizes waste, keeps materials in use, and regenerates natural systems through the European Union-funded Roots of Circularity (RoC) project. 

WCN is conducting a selection process and invites you to submit an application to provide WCN, within their requirements, for:

TITLE: Consultancy for the Development of a National Green and Sustainable Tourism Standards Framework for Nepal 

WCN Program: Roots of Circularity (RoC) Project 

Objective of the assignment: The overall objective of this consultancy is to develop a comprehensive, practical, and nationally endorsed National Green and Sustainable Tourism Standards Framework for green and sustainable tourism in Nepal. 

To achieve this, the assignment is driven by the following specific strategic objectives: 

• Assess existing tourism sustainability practices, regulatory gaps, and implementation challenges through desk review, stakeholder consultations, and field assessments. 
• Engage national and provincial stakeholders in a participatory standards development process. 
• Draft sector-appropriate standards covering environmental, social, and governance dimensions. 
• Draft a multi-tiered policy standards framework covering energy efficiency, water conservation, waste management, biodiversity protection, community benefit, cultural heritage, and local sourcing. 
• Recommend communities/enterprises, propose incentive and compliance mechanisms, and recommend capacity-building measures for government agencies, industry associations, and enterprises. 

Date: Estimated to start from Month 1 (post-selection) for a duration of 5–6 Months.
