FAIRMED is a Swiss development organization dedicated to work with its motto “Health for the Poorest”. The organization plays an important role in providing health care access to the marginalized communities and individuals who are prone to diseases, disability, and poverty. The core focus of FAIRMED's work in Nepal is Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) – Leprosy, LF, Kalaazar, etc and Maternal and Neonatal Health (MNH), while it interweaves GESI and Disability Inclusive Development (DID) as cross cutting themes into its programs to strengthen the health system and increase the uptake of public health services.

Details / requirements:

FAIRMED in Nepal is planning to implement a project aiming to improve health and well-being of communities in three districts (Jhapa, Morang, and Sunsari) of Province 1. The project applies the approach of “leaving no one behind” and plans to strengthen integrated health service delivery and its utilization in the targeted districts.

FAIRMED is looking for a candidate to lead the process of Health System strengthening with GESI as a vital cross cutting theme in the targeted districts and municipalities of its project to be implemented in Province 1. 

Position: Health System and GESI Specialist (Female only/ Based in Project Office, Biratnagar)

We are seeking a public health professional with expertise in gender equity and social inclusion/justice issues (including disability) in health sector. The position consists of three major components – gender equity, social inclusion/justice including disability, and local health system. The position will be responsible to enhance the capacity of project staffs, ensure GESI perspectives are well blended in the entire project cycle (e.g. identifying targeted beneficiaries, locations that are hard-to-reach), service accessibility and utilization trend, identifying barriers in supply and demand, and coordinating with project’s team and PNGOs. She will also ensure the capacity of project team members to understand GESI concepts and issues in health service delivery & utilization.

Required qualifications and experience

  1. Public Health professional with knowledge of NTDs and Reproductive Health, gender equity and inclusion issues (including disability) in community based health program.

  2. Master’s degree in Public Health/Nursing, Gender Studies, or Social Development with knowledge in Nepal’s overall health system in line with the federal structure.

  3. At least 4-6 years of work experience in community health programs with good understanding and concept of Gender and Health.

  4. Expertise in planning, implementation and monitoring processes, and experience in working with NGO partners and government agencies.
  5. Familiar with updated government GESI strategy, NTD/MNH policies/provisions, and local government structure.

Competencies

  1. Analytical understanding of GESI concepts, advocacy skill on inclusion based issues at all levels.

  2. Influential capacity to lead the team along with negotiation skills.

  3. Ability to work and interact with senior officials and other stakeholders during the process of implementation.

  4. Proficient in Nepali and English languages (oral and written).

  5. Excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to work effectively with a range of stakeholders.

  6. Ability to follow procedures, meet deadlines, work independently and in team.
