World Vision International (WVI) Nepal is a part of the World Vision International global partnership operating in nearly 100 countries. WVI started its long-term development programme in Nepal in 2001 to contribute for well-being of children. At present, WVI Nepal has long-term development programmes in 17 districts, namely Udayapur, Sarlahi, Mahottari, Rautahat, Sindhuli, Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Lamjung, Jumla, Kailali, Kanchanpur, Achham, Doti, Dailekh, Jajarkot, Banke and Bajhang across the seven provinces of Nepal.

The Health and Nutrition Coordinator will lead timely and quality implementation of WVI Nepal’s Integrated Programming Framework’s core project models and other health & nutrition projects/programs in the West Field Office (WFO). The position will ensure effective coordination between different departments, resource management, quality control, monitoring, and reporting in alignment with quality standards and support office requirements.

In addition, the position will enable capacity development of partner NGO staff, health workers, teachers, volunteers, and different groups and guide the partner NGOs' program/project staff for quality project/program execution; provide regular monitoring, mentoring, and liaison between local government, provincial government, and other stakeholders.

The position will work closely with the Field Operations Manager and the Integration Program Lead. The position will also work in close collaboration with the National Office (NO) Health and Nutrition, Protection, and Education Technical Heads and the Gender Equality, Disability, and Social Inclusion (GEDSI) Lead.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

Project/program management

  • Prepare program operation plan, timeline, and tracking of activities and budget for WFO health, nutrition Core Project Models (CPM), and projects as planned in SHIELD (WVI Nepal’s Programming Framework), including PNS and grants-based projects.
  • Lead health- and nutrition-related projects/programs under Area Programming, including Nurturing Care Groups (NCG), Positive Deviance/Hearth (PDH), Growth Monitoring and Promotion (GMP), Basic for Girls (B4G), NFLG, and ENOUGH campaign.
  • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders, including partners, to ensure the quality and timely implementation of health and nutrition projects.
  • Work together with partner project/program staff to track progress, identify the areas for improvement, support, and report to management.
  • In close coordination with MEAL, update and review data and dashboards timely and provide accurate information for decision-making.
  • Prepare reports, presentations, and other relevant materials to share among internal and external stakeholders as requirements.
  • Establish functional relationships with different sectors and internal and external partners, including government, and seek support from the national office to ensure successful implementation of health and nutrition projects/programs.
  • Manage the contracts/partnership agreements with implementing partners (PNGOs) and provide regular technical oversight and support to PNGOs to ensure all project/program activities meet the implementation targets, timeline, and expected standards.
  • Technically lead in compiling consolidated DIP, ITT progress, and budget for health and nutrition programs.
  • Capacity development of project staff, health workers, teachers, elected members, and other concerned stakeholders as per project/program requirements.
  • Organize and manage health and nutrition project-related visits by the national office and support offices.
  • Ensure that gaps in project performance as well as lessons learned are identified through the reporting process and actioned timely.
  • Coordinate with field office management team, cross functions, partners to track project quarterly and monthly planning, project updates, documentation, reporting, etc.
  • Ensure project baseline and end line are undertaken and reported timely as and when required.

Implementation, Reporting and Information Management

  • Lead Basics for Girls (B4G), NCG, PDH, GMP, NFLG, and ENOUGH campaign and other health & nutrition projects/programs independently. Ensure quality benchmarks, activity implementation guidelines, and minimum standards are in place and activities are implemented accordingly.
  • Monitoring and tracking progress of B4G, NCG, PDH, GMP, NFLG, and ENOUGH projects/programs and other health and nutrition PNS and grant projects/programs to ensure effective and timely implementation.
  • Provide onsite coaching and mentoring to project staff, health workers, and teachers on Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF), Comprehensive Nutrition Specific Interventions (CNSI), adolescents’ reproductive health, child protection, gender-based violence, and comprehensive sexuality education services delivered in a standard manner from service delivery points.
  • Provide or manage training to health workers, teachers, child rights committees, and other relevant stakeholders on IYCF, CNSI, comprehensive sexuality education, adolescent sexual reproductive health, gender-based violence, and other relevant topics to deliver services effectively.
  • Ensure quality service delivery of health and nutrition, including ASRH, GBV, Safeguarding, CSE, and Protection services from service delivery points.
  • Ensure B4G actions (establishment of Adolescent Friendly Information corner in health facilities and secondary schools and MHM-friendly infrastructure created in schools and health facilities with SBCC materials) in schools and health facilities.
  • Facilitate ensuring the availability of trained human resources in health facilities, in schools, and at the local level to provide nutrition, ASRH, CSE, safeguarding, and other health and nutrition services.
  • Ensure a GBV response system is in place at schools and wards' offices and strengthen and/or equip the safe house at the AP level and OCMC center in the district hospital.
  • Ensure actions are carried out to improve knowledge of caretakers, parents, and adolescents on nutrition; adolescent sexual reproductive health, including menstrual hygiene management; and gender-based violence.
  • Identify, document, and adapt to project-related challenges; facilitate redesign/re-budgeting processes in close coordination with the project/program team for further decision-making.
  • Document and communicate challenges, provide feedback on gaps, prepare summaries with infographics, and maintain accurate archives to support project/program implementation and reporting
  • Proactive communication to all stakeholders, cross functions, and departments (both FO and NO) regarding any changes in program management and operations.
  • Provide regular project progress updates and analysis to key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Undertake visits to project implementation areas to provide detailed oversight of the NCG, PDH, GMP, NFLG, ENOUGH, and B4G projects and other health and nutrition-related projects/programs.
  • Manage the project/program reporting schedule as per donor/support office requirements, including periodic and end-of-project reports, clearly communicating the timeline, process, and specific requirements to internal/field teams to ensure the timely delivery of high-quality reports.
  • Prepare/review reports to ensure requirements have been met and queries have been addressed before submission.
  • Identify the programmatic and operational gaps of the core project module under health and nutrition and share them with the management for the necessary adjustment and plan.
  • Ensure WVI systems, dashboards, horizon, etc. are kept up-to-date with project information
  • Collect success/case stories and before/after photos of project/program sites and share to the program manager/donor.
  • Ensure program operations align with national guidelines and organizational standards.

Supportive Function

  • Coordinate and work closely with MEAL to ensure quality of activities, monitoring, and evaluation of health and nutrition-related CPMs and projects under FO.
  • Analyze health and nutrition program data to identify gaps, recommend corrective actions, and actively engage in district and provincial government and partner coordination forums to support evidence-based decision-making and program alignment.
  • Ensure the incorporation of international and WV standards, as well as Safeguarding, DME, Accountability, and GEDSI processes and findings, into project implementation processes.
  • Ensure safeguarding and child protection-related compliances are fulfilled in the project and inform the safeguarding and protection focal points for any incident recording.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of internal systems and processes to support effective program management and operations.
  • Increasing demonstration and understanding of and commitment to World Vision’s core values in the approach to work and relationships.
  • When necessary, contribute to the design and drafting of quality health & nutrition project proposals for successful institutional grant acquisition.
  • Support a relief response for the relevant sector as and when necessary.
  • Capture key learning of the different projects; apply learning from professional development by mentoring field staff and improving health or nutrition program processes; and document evidence of application through performance reviews or capacity-building sessions

Others

  • Building positive professional relationships with partners and cross functions at both FO and NO
  • Program integration with Province, Palika, and other peer organizations to increase program synergy
  • Organize a joint monitoring visit along with Palika and other relevant sectors to increase collaboration and ensure program quality and ownership.
  • Establish functional relationships with Ward, Palika offices, provincial health directorates, health facilities, and schools to create nutrition-friendly local governance and MHM-friendly and GVB-responsive environments for children and adolescents.
  • Represent various platforms at both the provincial and district levels and communities, as required/assigned by the supervisor, to foster collaboration and to maximize the reach to drive positive changes in the communities.
  • Anything else requested by the Field Operations Manager, Integrated Program Lead, and other technical leads to support the quality of programming for WVIN Field Operations.

KNOWLEDGE/QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE ROLE

Required Professional Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in public health (BPH) or bachelor’s degree in community nursing or equivalent in relevant fields of study. A master's degree in a relevant field is preferred.

Required Education, training, license, registration and certification

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience working in the development sector on health and nutrition programs, adolescent sexual reproductive health, gender-based violence, and comprehensive sexuality education programs.
  • Self-motivated, who can work independently and manage pressure situations tactfully.

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Track record of working with local NGO partners, local and provincial government
  • Knowledge or experience in supporting Nepal Government on NFLG, CFLG, and advocacy programming on health and nutrition programs, including ASRH, GBV, CSE programming
  • Good fluency in using digital platforms with fluency in both English and Nepali
  • Have excellent communication, documentation and coordination skills
  • High level of integrity towards resources, and identifying risks, etc.
  • Strong analytical skills and Proven experience as a team player, demonstrated collaboration & team-building skills
  • Proven ability to write and produce reports and publications
  • Competent in Microsoft Office.
  • Strong negotiation, interpersonal, administrative and facilitation skills
  • Must be able to interact with diverse groups and stakeholders at different level

Travel and/or Work Environment

  • Need-based travel to provincial-level engagements and other district areas’ program locations.
