Green Tara Nepal, a non-political, non-profit making non-governmental organization, established in 2007, has been working in the field of maternal and child health. It works in research, publications, advocacy, training, and social mobilization in a holistic community development approach. Green Tara Nepal aims to bridge the gap between rural and urban, rich and poor, and men and women in accessing services and improving healthy behaviors through community development and health promotion approach.

Kids at School in Nepal (KASIN), is a UK based Charity organisation working in Nepal since 2004, with the vision that all children have the right to a decent education. It is helping children from disadvantaged communities in rural Nepal to realise their full potential.

Green Tara Nepal (GTN) in partnership with Kids at School in Nepal (KASIN) and coordination with Ganga-Jamuna rural municipality has been implementing a School and Community Health Promotion project in Dhading. The main objective of the project is to improve the quality of education, health and well-being among children in the targeted area and to make them capable at access these. Our aim is that all children will have the right and opportunity to learn in a healthy and stimulating environment.

We are looking for an experienced and qualified Nepali candidate for the School and Community Health Promotion Project. The candidates with proven skills of meeting the requirements and dedicated to work in NGOs are encouraged to apply for this position:

Ganga-Jamuna Rural Municipality Office at Phoolkharka (require field visit in various schools and communities within Ganga-Jamuna municipality)

Accountable to:

Green Tara Nepal and Kids at School in Nepal

Reporting to:

  • Work under day-to-day Communication and supervision of School and Community Health Promotion Officer and Executive Director (or assigned person) of GTN and Ganga-Jamuna RM, Dhading; and 
  • Maintain regular communication with Kids at School in Nepal (Liz/Patrick Wherity) and Prof. Padam Simkhada
Academic qualification:Health or Nursing background (e.g. CMA, ANM with above 3 years’ experience or Staff Nurse or HA with 2 years’ experience or Bachelor in Public Health / Bachelor in Nursing. 
Key Skills:Candidate should have a mature, non-judgmental, confident and caring manner. The ability to interact well with people from a wide range of backgrounds, together with good problem solving and project/time management skills are essential. Excellent communication skills are vital, as is the ability to motivate others.
Candidate should have:
  • excellent oral and written communication skills (Nepali must, English preferable)
  • good networking skills 
  • the ability to build and maintain good relationships with individuals and organisations - including public, private, community and voluntary bodies
  • decision-making skills for acting on policies and strategies
  • leadership skills and the ability to motivate and influence others in their health decision
  • empathy for people facing difficult situations

  • good time management skills for managing your workload effectively
  • creativity and the ability to achieve results and targets.

Major Responsibilities

Programme planning and implementation

  • Coordinate with the RM (Palika), manage and maintain effective coordination and collaboration with local stakeholders for smooth running of the project; and to ensure project activities are well understood and accepted at local level. 
  • Conduct regular health education sessions at school and health promotion activities in the community.
  • Design, manage and promote health improvement programmes within the school and in the communities.
  • Liaising with, supporting the work of, and providing expert advice to other voluntary, charity and statutory organisations (such as the Health Post, other NGOs and Feeder schools
  • Provide training to primary level teachers including feeder schools

b) Recording and reporting 

  • Make presentations at all levels.
  • Write reports as required by the project (this will be discussed during planning)

c) Administrative

  • Work as assigned by the line Manager/Supervisor

Remuneration

  • Salary will be at the range of graduate high school teacher plus other benefits (travel and communication)
  • Initial contract will be for 2 years (renewed every year)

Selected candidates must adherence to GTN policies and procedures, protocols, code of conduct with special attention to Child Protection Policies and Do No Harm approach including funding agency’s policies, guidelines and agreements.
