POSITION DESCRIPTION

Project Description

Deloitte Consulting is the implementing partner for the USAID-funded Trade and Competitiveness Activity based in Kathmandu. This position is under Deloitte Consulting Overseas Projects LLC. The purpose of USAID Trade and Competitiveness Activity is to increase Nepali private sector participation in targeted global value chains. This is a five-year program; however, this position is currently for one year with the possibility of renewal.

Gender Equity and Social Inclusion (GESI) Advisor - The GESI Advisor will be responsible for developing and managing implementation of activities designed to enhance the social and economic trade and competitiveness opportunities for women, ethnic minorities and vulnerable or marginalized groups. S/he will also help design activities that address the barriers faced by women, youth, and disadvantaged communities in trade, business, and access to resources and market information, which impede their ability to be competitive and expand their businesses. The GESI Advisor will also address sector specific interventions, such as in Agriculture, Tourism, and Digital Services.  These could include but are not limited to training women in processing and mentoring for leadership; facilitating supply chain linkages and relationships that benefit farmers/primary producers; supporting women entrepreneurs to scale businesses; and promoting flexible work and development of digital tools among others.  The position reports directly to the Director of Finance, Admin, and Compliance (DFAC). 

This is a part-time position (20 hours per week) that may become full-time upon completion of responsibilities. 

Deliverables, Tasks and/or Outputs

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Lead the integration of GESI in annual workplans and draft the GESI section of the annual workplan, annual reports, and quarterly reports.
  • Act as a technical resource for integrating GESI approaches across all components of the project. 
  • Provide GESI-related support and technical oversight in the development of key project deliverables including GESI activities in all the technical work streams.
  • Advise teams on intentional and effective integration of GESI in program planning and delivery.
  • Identify and address GESI-related learning needs of staff. 
  • Roll out training on GESI strategies and GESI First approach for staff.
  • Capture, develop, standardize, and share tools, resources, and processes that promote GESI.
  • Support the capture and dissemination of GESI-related lessons learned, leading practices and successful approaches. 
  • Lead the collection of data on GESI-related indicators; support the MEL team/expert in collecting GESI data and in developing GESI-related learning questions and other resources/methods. 
  • Compile, produce and contribute to quarterly and semi-annual learning reports on GESI indicators and capture success stories.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in international development, gender studies, behavioral economics, sociology, or related field 
  • At least five years’ experience leading and implementing GESI initiatives.
  • Experience conducting GESI policy/manual development and training.
  • Demonstrated experience advising teams and successfully integrating GESI in economic development programming
  • Familiarity and experience with monitoring GESI-related indicators
  • Ability and willingness to travel.
  • Fluent in written and spoken Nepali and English.

Preferred Qualifications

  • GESI specific trainings/seminars or advanced courses
  • Master’s degree in international development, gender studies, behavioral economics, sociology or related field
  • Experience with developing case studies and building business cases supporting GESI.
  • Experience with USAID or other donor programming.
  • Familiarity with GESI issues relating to Agriculture, Tourism or Digital services sector.
