TerraMrida Coffee Agroforestry Biocarbon Project

Vacancy: 2 positions of  Field Interns (AGRICULTURE & FORESTRY)

Duration: 6 months (full-time), with strong potential to transition into a Project Field 

Stipend: Rs 15,000 per month, with free food and hostel accommodation.

Coordinator role upon successful completion.

Location: Khotang  District (Diktel) field office + regular travel to pilot sites 

Start Date: Immediate

About MEFBA & TerraMrida

MEFBA is a national alliance of grassroots forest and farm producer organisations working to develop climate-smart agroforestry models in eastern Nepal. The TerraMrida Project combines shade-grown coffee, biodiversity conservation, and high-integrity carbon sequestration to create sustainable livelihoods—and engage youth in mountain communities.

Responsibilities

Site Surveys & GIS

  • Assist with GPS-aided boundary mapping of pilot plots
  • Support digitization of parcel maps in QGIS (or similar)

Baseline Data & MRV Support

  • Conduct structured socio-economic interviews with farmers
  • Record soil parameters and establish MRV photo-points

Nursery Operations

  • Supervise prepare potting mix, fill & label polybags for coffee saplings
  • Monitor germination, shading, and irrigation; maintain logs

Community Engagement & FPIC Facilitation

  • Organize village orientation meetings; document participation
  • Explain FPIC consent forms to Indigenous Peoples & Local Communities

Reporting & Learning

  • Maintain daily field diary and submit weekly progress briefs
  • Contribute to mid-term/final “lessons learned” presentations

Qualifications & Skills

Education: BSc in Agriculture, Forestry, Agroforestry, Horticulture, or related discipline (graduated within last 2 years)

Technical:

  • Desirable: GIS (QGIS/GPS), Microsoft Excel proficiency
  • Comfortable managing digital data on a laptop

Mobility: Possession of a motorbike (or reliable access) for field travel

Soft Skills:

  • Strong interpersonal aptitude for rural community engagement
  • Fluent Nepali; good written & spoken English
  • Adaptability to mountain terrain and basic field living conditions
