Field Facilitator
Institute of Himalayan Risk Reduction (IHRR) is an organization established with an objective to assess and understand the risk to contribute to sustainability. Complying with the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction(SFDRR), IHRR envisions to understand the risk and application of interdisciplinary knowledge with Science, Engineering, Technology and Innovation to contribute for risk reduction and bridging of academic research with professionals and policymakers for sustainability. The team consists of professionals with expertise and experiences in the field of disaster risk management in understanding the risk, conducting academic research, and field-level implementations in Nepal and different parts of the world.

Location: Beldandi Rural Municipality, Kanchanpur District, Nepal
Duration: Short-term project assignment (5 months)
Background
Institute of Himalayan Risk Reduction (IHRR) is implementing the SAFER-Chaudhar project to strengthen community-based flood early warning systems through citizen science approaches and low-cost hydrometeorological monitoring tools. The project focuses on improving flood preparedness, enhancing community participation, and strengthening coordination with local governments and disaster management committees.
To support effective field-level implementation, IHRR invites applications from motivated and qualified candidates to serve as Field Facilitator based in Beldandi Rural Municipality.
Number of position: 1 (Field Facilitator)
Scope of Work
The Field Facilitator will support day-to-day field implementation of project activities and community coordination.
Key responsibilities include:
- Mobilizing community members and coordinating with ward offices, LDMCs, schools, and local stakeholders
- Supporting identification, training, and coordination of citizen scientists
- Assisting installation and basic maintenance of low-cost monitoring tools (rain gauges and staff gauges)
- Supporting community meetings, sensitization events, and awareness programs
- Acting as a liaison between communities, local government, and the project team
- Maintaining field activity records, photographs, attendance sheets, and progress documentation
- Supporting monitoring, reporting, and documentation in coordination with the project team
- Ensuring Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) and safeguarding principles are followed during field activities
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
Education
Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Environmental Studies, Disaster Risk Reduction, Geography, or related fields
Experience
- Minimum 2 years of experience working in community-based projects related to disaster risk reduction, climate adaptation, or development sectors
- Experience working in flood-prone or rural settings will be an added advantage
Technical & Field Skills
- Strong facilitation and community mobilization skills
- Familiarity with local government structures and LDMCs
- Ability to use smartphones and basic digital reporting tools
- Knowledge of local languages is highly desirable
Other Requirements
- Valid two-wheeler driving license with willingness to travel within project areas
- Ability to work independently in field settings
- Strong communication skills and professional work ethics
Availability
- Must be available for full-time engagement during the project period
- Willingness to travel frequently within Beldandi Rural Municipality and surrounding areas
Supervision & Performance Evaluation
- The Field Facilitator will work under the direct supervision of the Project Coordinator and technical guidance from IHRR’s Flood/EWS experts
- Performance will be assessed based on deliverables, quality of community engagement, reporting standards, and adherence to project timelines
Compensation
- Compensation will be provided as per IHRR’s project staffing policy and contract agreement
- Payment will be processed on a monthly basis based on performance and deliverable completion
