Sparśa invites qualified individual consultants to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) to develop a comprehensive, Nepali-language Menstrual Health and Hygiene Management (MHHM) awareness manual and facilitator guide for the Sparśa Ambassador Program, for use by youth ambassadors and community health workers in Chitwan, Nawalpur East and Nawalparasi West.
1. About Sparśa
Sparśa is a social enterprise advancing menstrual health and hygiene, dignity, and climate justice in Nepal through biodegradable products, education, and youth-led advocacy. It is registered as a “company not distributing profit” under Section 5(1) of the Companies Act 2006.
We produce compostable menstrual pads made from banana fibre, locally sourced from agricultural waste. They are scientifically validated, plastic-free, and manufactured through women-led systems. This turns a waste stream into an affordable product and removes the plastic burden and disposal problem that conventional pads create in Nepali communities.
Profits from these products directly fund awareness and educational campaigns on menstrual health and hygiene and women’s rights across Nepal. Sparśa is not just an enterprise; it is a movement toward dignity, equality, and sustainability, one that addresses the deeply rooted stigmas surrounding menstruation while creating sustainable employment for women from disadvantaged groups.
2. Purpose of the assignment
Sparśa seeks an individual consultant to develop a complete, ready-to-use Menstrual Health and Hygiene Management Awareness Manual in Nepali, together with a facilitator guide and session plans, that Ambassadors and community health workers can adopt directly in schools, communities and health posts.
The manual must meet four tests:
- Nepali-first. Written in plain, spoken Nepali, not translated officialese, with locally used terms and no reliance on English jargon.
- Locally grounded. Examples, names, scenarios and illustrations drawn from Chitwan, Nawalpur and Nawalparasi contexts, and sensitive to community norms.
- Government-aligned. Consistent with Nepal’s national curriculum content and the national policy framework on menstrual health and hygiene and dignified menstruation.
- Behaviour-focused, not only knowledge-focused. Built to shift norms and practice, using participatory methods, not lecture scripts.
3. Consultant profile
This assignment is open to individual consultants only. A consultant may propose a named collaborator (for example an illustrator or a Nepali language editor) as part of their proposal, but the contract will be held by one individual who is accountable for all deliverables.
Required
- Master’s degree in public health, sexual and reproductive health, education, gender studies, social sciences or a related field. Exceptional experience may substitute for the degree.
- At least five years of experience in menstrual health and hygiene, SRHR, adolescent health or WASH programming in Nepal.
- Demonstrated experience developing training manuals, curricula or facilitator guides. At least two comparable products must be submitted as samples.
- Full professional fluency in written Nepali, including the ability to write plain, spoken-register Nepali for young and low-literacy audiences.
- Working knowledge of Nepal’s national policy and curriculum framework on menstrual health and hygiene and school health.
- Demonstrated experience with participatory and behaviour-change methodologies, not only knowledge-transfer training design.
Desirable
- Prior work in Chitwan, Nawalpur or Madhesh/Lumbini province communities.
- Experience designing materials for peer educators or youth facilitators specifically.
- Experience translating research findings into practical training content.
- Familiarity with safeguarding and child protection standards in educational settings.
- Experience with materials for health post and community health worker audiences.
- Published or endorsed work with government bodies, CEHRD, or MHMPA member organisations.
4. How to apply
Interested consultants should submit the following by 20 November 2026, 17:00 NPT to infosparsa1@gmail.com, with the subject line “EOI: MHM Manual Development”.
