Maiti Nepal, like any other Non-Government Organization (NGO) in Nepal, operates through a general agreement with Social Welfare Council, Government of Nepal that allows it to implement programs to prevent human trafficking by reaching out to the community, particularly children and women, by raising the awareness level of communities and extending life skills so that children and women are not trafficked into different forms of abuse including exploitation.

Position: Education Counsellor

Teresa Academy, established in April 1998, is an inclusive English-medium school run by Maiti Nepal with a mission to provide quality education and holistic development for vulnerable and underprivileged children, particularly girls at risk of trafficking, abuse, and exploitation. The academy started with just a few early grades and has grown to offer education from early childhood through higher secondary levels, following Nepal’s national curriculum and fostering an academically stimulating environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess students’ learning, behavioral, and emotional needs.
  • Provide counseling and psychological support to students.
  • Work with teachers to develop effective learning strategies.
  • Identify learning difficulties and recommend appropriate interventions.
  • Support students with special educational needs.
  • Conduct psychological assessments and prepare reports.
  • Organize awareness programs for students and parents.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor/ Master’s Degree in Educational Psychology / Psychology or related field.
  • Relevant training or certification in child or educational psychology.
  • Experience working with school-age children preferred.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with staff and parents.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a school setting.
  • Knowledge of child development and learning difficulties.
  • Counseling experience.
