About the job:

Introduction:

The individual will be employed by BGN as a Driver. He will be responsible to safely transport visitors and passengers as well as various goods, store items and other materials to and from different locations in a timely manner. His responsibility also includes arranging regular cleaning and maintenance services for the vehicles and planning routes based on road terrain and traffic conditions.

This position is advertised at 40 hours per week.

Job description:

  • Driving is to be done only when it is authorised to do so, and he must comply with Road Transport Movement Regulation - JSP 800 Chapter 10. He is to keep the record of his daily Driving Hours and not to exceed maximum daily driving and working hours in no circumstances.
  • Carry out Vehicle Fault reporting procedure and chain by the individual as necessary.
  • Carry out routine service and maintenance of vehicle/equipment as directed by Motor Transport Sergeant/Workshop Foreman (MT Sgt/Wksp FM).
  • Keeping security of the vehicle both inside and outside the camp.
  • Responsible for cleanliness of the vehicle – preparing it for formal inspection as directed by MT Sgt BGP.
  • Responsible for the possession of proper driver and vehicle documents i.e. driving licence/FMT 600 and signed F/MT 1001A (VUR) and vehicle document.
  • He is to be familiar to drive heavy vehicle including People Caring Vehicle (PCV) and take responsibilities of load and passengers. He is to ensure the safety of the passengers and the vehicle while parking outside of the MOD premises.
  • He is to be familiar with the Speed Limits, RTA/Breakdown procedure and documentation.
  • He is to be smartly dressed at all the time.
  • Account and maintain all Complete Equipment Store (CES) item in accordance with CES list.
  • Account ET and Miscellaneous Storage Account (MSA) items as per Equipment Table.
  • He is responsible to ensure the use of seatbelts and child restraints.
  • He is to ensure the roadworthiness of the vehicle prior to start the journey and must clean and refuel the vehicle on completion of the task.
  • He is responsible to carry out all L1 jobs where possible and report to Detail Clerk/ MT Sgt/ VMs if the vehicle is non-task worthy.
  • Responsible for end of month vehicle closedown procedure (i.e. close (Authority to use document) ATUD, refuelling vehicles) and return the ATUD to detail clerk.

Work Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years of proven Driving experience
  • Driving license category, A, B, F, G and training is essential for this role to deliver the job responsibility effectively and efficiently with good sense of customer service.

Qualification:

  • Academic – Secondary Education (SLC/SEE) - Minimum
  • Technical/Job related
    • Basic knowledge of vehicle mechanical system, Road Traffic Accident (RTA)/ road Traffic Incident (RTI) procedure, navigation skills and General knowledge of oil and lubrication.
    • Knowledge on Complete Equipment Schedule and safe and correct use of these equipment, Basic knowledge of servicing and maintenance check of the vehicle and Knowledge of BGNSI 4.04 Mechanical Transport Standing Order (MTSO) and BGN UECD.
    • General knowledge of Drivers’ Hours regulation and other MT related documents (ATUD, FMT 600 and Transport request forms) 
    • Basic knowledge of LV1, LV2 jobs, Fault reporting procedure and transport booking procedure), knowledge of FMT 1000 series, 1084A and FMT 1005 and understanding of MT/ BGN organization.
  • English – Good Written and Spoken
  • Nepali – Good Written and Spoken

Selection process:

The ideal candidate will have a keen interest in understanding their duties and be familiar with all relevant Health and Safety awareness. They will also have knowledge of equipment care. Should have communication skills in both English and Nepali, navigation skill, and a good sense of road safety awareness. Be physically fit and capable to undertake arduous work. Candidates must hold the driving license category A, B, F, G and ensure their experience and qualifications meet above written requirements.

Candidates meeting the standard and job requirement will only be sifted for Written and Practical Test taken by MT Sgt, BGP in Pokhara, followed by interview selection on MERIT basis.
