Position Summary:

The Deputy Executive Director will work directly under the Executive Director to support daily operations, strategic planning, business development and organizational governance. This is a leadership role ideal for someone with strong management skills, a passion in mental health and psychosocial sector, and the ability to work in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment. The organization has a strategy to groom the candidate to take over the responsibility as the Executive Director of the organization over a defined period.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the Executive Director in the overall management and accomplishment of organizational operations.
  • Ensure effective and efficient internal communication and coordination across all three departments: program, research, admin & finance team.
  • Assist in developing MEAL strategic plans including annual work plans, and performance metrics/indicators to ensure program effectiveness, learning and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee administrative and operational systems to ensure efficiency and compliance with existing policies, Government of Nepal and donor requirements.
  • Facilitate timely documentation, reporting, and communication with external stakeholders.
  • Represent the organization in meetings, events, workshops and strategic forums as delegated.
  • Support governance functions, including communications to the Executive Board, Management Committee, policy updates, and organizational reviews.
  • Support Management Committee and the Head of Admin/Operations in staff development, performance management, succession planning, and fostering a positive organizational culture.
  • Lead program/proposal development including budget and work plans based on requirements through donor mapping and strategic relationship management to ensure financial sustainability.
  • Support to assess any organizational risk and develop risk mitigation measures including safeguarding and protection protocol.
  • Take the office in-charge-ship in the absence of Executive Director.
  • Lead special projects or organizational initiatives as assigned by the Executive Director.
  • Support team to prepare budget and work plans based on requirements.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

  • Minimum Master’s degree in Public Health, Psychiatry, Psychology, Social Sciences, Management, or a related field with recognition from a university.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a leadership or managerial role in the non-profit or development sector preferably MHPSS.
  • Proven experience in program or operations management, preferably in health or psychosocial and mental health.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, organization management, and analytical skills.
  • Strong understanding of NGO governance, donor compliance, government structure including health, social care, education and protections systems, and reporting requirements.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize effectively, and work collaboratively within teams.
  • Commitment to mental health equity and the values of social justice.
  • Proven experience and performance in program development, grant writing and grant management with I/NGOs, universities and other funding agencies working in Nepal.
  • Have a strong culture of inclusion, equity, and non-discrimination across the organization.
  • Champion in integrity, transparency, and accountability in all aspects of leadership, modeling ethical behavior and adherence to TPO Nepal’s Code of Conduct, safeguarding, and anti-corruption policies.

Preferred:

  • Experience working with or in coordination with government systems (health, education and protection) in Nepal.
  • Familiarity with psychosocial and mental health systems, policy, service users and rights-based approaches.
