Details / requirements:

Chemonics International seeks a project lead/deputy chief of party for the anticipated USAID/Nepal Early Grade Learning Activity in Nepal. This five-year activity seeks to provide technical assistance in the education sector to strengthen the capacity of national, provincial, and municipal government entities to improve learning outcomes for early grade students. This position will be based in Kathmandu, Nepal. We are looking for individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and work closely with technical experts and decentralized staff to ensure effective implementation of project activities in support of objectives.
  • Supervise daily project activities and respond to programmatic and operational challenges
  • Regularly interface and maintain relationships with the Central Government of Nepal, the Ministries, local and national counterparts, and other program stakeholders
  • Ensure project compliance with both USAID and Chemonics’ contractual and administrative requirements
  • Support the COP in providing management, oversight, and technical direction to strengthen the capacity of national and local government entities in improving early grade learning in Nepal
  • Support the chief of party to organize and lead learning events (internal and external to project staff) to build understanding of effective, evidence-based practices in early grade education
  • Serve as the acting chief of party in the absence of the chief of party

Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in education policy, planning, curriculum development, teacher professional development or other relevant technical fields preferred
  • Minimum of seven years of technical experience in some or all of the following technical areas: early grade reading, disability inclusion, curriculum and material design, and/or capacity development in the education sector
  • Experience leading and managing international donor-supported programs, preferably USAID, for efforts of similar scope, size, and complexity required
  • Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with demonstrated diplomacy and the ability to communicate effectively with government stakeholders
  • Fluency in Nepali and English is required
