CONSULTANT –TRANSLATION AND INTERPRETATION SERVICE (INDIVIDUAL/FIRM)
BACKGROUND:
Nepal is a source, transit, and destination country for sex, labor, and organ trafficking. A 2014 report estimates that 230,000 Nepalis are subject to slavery at any given time, and nearly 30 percent of the economically-active population is unemployed or underemployed. The Hamro Samman project is a five-year program generously supported by the American people through the United States Agency for International Development and the British people through the United Kingdom’s Department For International Development and implemented by Winrock International. It seeks to build the capacity of and facilitate coordination among the GON, civil society, and private sector to combat human trafficking in Nepal.
OVERVIEW:
The Hamro Samman Project is seeking qualified consultants for its roster to translate various English/Nepali – Nepali/English language documents and reports on human trafficking and foreign labor migration. Interpretation services as and when required from English/Nepali and Nepali/English.
TASKS AND OUTPUT:
- The Translator will undertake the following duties and responsibilities:
- Make written English/Nepali – Nepali/English translation and submit translation in word processed documents;
- Proof Read and edit the document;
- Share draft translation with designate employee, incorporate suggested changes to the translation.
- All texts, including texts contained in figures, boxes, captions, sources and covers requires translation and proofreading;
- Ensure high quality and accuracy of the entire document before submitting it to the designated employee of the project
- Ensure accuracy of the terms and terminology used in the documents;
- Ensure that the translation is written with style, correct grammar and spelling, and
- Complete the work within the agreed timeline and submit the final translation in both soft and hard copy.
The Interpreter will undertake the following duties and responsibilities:
- Interpret English/Nepali – Nepali/English as and when required on various occasions as determined by Hamro Samman Project.
- Relay the message fluently, understanding the contexts, interpret instant and in precise manner.
TIMING, DURATION AND LOCATION:
Qualified applicants will be placed on Hamro Samman’s roster and contacted from time to time to provide translation and interpretation services. The work will be home based for translation service and location will be pre-determined for interpretation services, with visits to the Kathmandu office from time to time as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Master's degree in Humanity, English, Law or related field or equivalent in experience.
Technical: Minimum of 7 years of professional expertise on translation and interpretation in English/Nepali – Nepali/English
Experience/Skills/Knowledge:
- Exceptional translating, writing and editing skills with excellent attention to detail
- Exceptional Interpretation skills and expressive on subject matter in precise and meaningful way
- Experience in Counter Trafficking in Person (CTIP) technical knowledge and familiarity with legal and private sector aspects of CTIP
- Excellent technical experience and knowledge of human trafficking, labor migration and related themes
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Ability to manage the available time and resources and to work on tight deadlines
- Advanced computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint
