VACANCY

Women Welfare Service (WWS) is a non-governmental organization led by local women in Humla district in Karnali provenance of Nepal. Since its establishment, WWS has been working to address issues related to extreme poverty and the deprivation of women in the region. Our core intervention areas include livelihood, education, maternal health, and empowerment. 

The project: “Enhancing Resilience and Inclusive Adaptation Practices to Climate Change in the Himalayan Region (ENRICH)” has been implementing at Sarkegard RM of Humla District. It is the most remote district among the 77 districts of Nepal with diverse and difficult geographical terrain in the western mountainous area of the province. Further, this district has still isolated and neglected from the rest of Nepal in many dimensions. The project area is located within 2 days of walking distance from district headquarters. District headquarters can be reached through flights from Nepalgunj or Surkhet (highly dependent on weather conditions). Due to its remoteness, poverty, and negligence of government and development actors the development of the entire Karnali region always lags behind. This project has been implementing as a supplementary to the SAAMARTHYA project.

Women welfare service, Humla is currently searching for a consultancy firm to Support communities to prepare a diversified action plan on climate-resilient livelihood under the “Enhancing Resilience and Inclusive Adaptation Practices to Climate Change in the Himalayan Region (ENRICH)” project.

The objectives of this consultancy are: 

The specific objectives of this consultancy are to: 

  • Prepare manual on a diversified action plan on climate-resilient livelihood Support communities to prepare a diversified action plan on climate-resilient livelihood.
  • Facilitate the farmer group to prepare their action plan.

Consultancy timeline & location

The consultancy has been scoped for 1 month (30 working days) with the following provisional schedule:

Consultancy Location: 

  • Preparation of process documents (Methodology, tools, action plan, etc.) and training manual carried out in Kathmandu, Surkhet …. etc., 
  • Sarkegad Rural Municipality of Humla district for fieldwork.

Method of work: 

The consultant is envisaged to work via:

  • Review of related project documents
  • Prepare the training manual, and scheduling 
  • Conduct the training to farmer group members and project staff for prepared the diversified plan.
  • Meetings & discussions with WWS and the partner staff. 

Requirements:

The ideal consultancy firm for this consultancy will meet the following criteria:

  • Master Degree in Environment Science, Agriculture, Natural Resource Management, Forestry, social science
  • A firm with competent human resources and good experience on climate change adaptation, climate-smart agricultural practices, and livelihood focusing on the issues of marginalized people in Karnali (e.g. women, adolescents, Dalit, persons with disabilities, substance farmers, etc.)
  • Proven experience in preparation of diversified action plan on climate-resilient livelihood manual
  • Proficiency in speaking and writing in English at a professional level. 
  • Physically fit for an intensive walk in the mountains
  • Register in VAT
  • Nepali language skills 

The outputs/deliverables of this consultancy are: 

  • Event report including detailed action plans of fieldwork, methodology of the diversified action plan on climate-resilient livelihood.
  • Prepared Diversified action plan on climate-resilient livelihood manual
  • Schedule and report of facilitators on diversify action plan, 
  • Integrated Report of 16 farmer groups on the diversified plan.
