CONSTRUCTION TECHNICAL SUPERVISOR/ADVISOR

Job Title: Construction Technical Supervisor / Advisor

Job Location: Dang, Nepal

Current Project Sites: Rajpur and Gadhawa, Dang Region, Nepal

Rural Women Development Center is launching a new program in collaboration with US Donor NIVAS to empower families experiencing housing insecurity in Dang, Nepal. Through the construction of new disaster-resilient homes, together we aim to support empowered families, a highly skilled local workforce, and resilient communities. Our main focus is women-led families and the immense barriers to providing safe shelter for their children.

We are a small, collaborative team that utilizes our resources effectively to create a transformational impact for the families we serve. We are seeking a passionate, highly skilled, and dedicated new team member to oversee, enhance, and report on our construction services. The ideal candidate will be passionate about creating equity for the most vulnerable families in Nepal and must have a strong belief in the agency and abilities of all women. The best candidate will be passionate about bringing high-quality homes to all people and will help coordinate and solve any issues that arise locally. The Construction Technical Supervisor works directly and collaboratively with our Program Coordinator and RWDC staff, our Construction Management Team, the Construction Training Team, and Nivas Executive Director.

This position is highly flexible, great opportunities for skill development and leadership. Because of this, the position requires a highly self-motivated and driven personality.

Main Roles and Responsibilities

Phase: 2024

  • Construction oversight and quality control, working directly with general contractors to produce high-quality single-family homes. Liaise with the contractor regarding construction site conditions, materials, and related concerns.
  • Quality assurance of construction, including monitoring each construction site and taking the initiative to find solutions to the problems that arise on the ground.
  • Assist in finding and preparing local on-the-job construction trainees for construction training, home building, and potential future construction work that may become available through the program. 
  • Working closely with social science and construction teams as well as, working collaboratively with municipalities and to-be homeowners to facilitate their involvement in construction labor, resources, etc.
  • Assisting with donor compliance, maintaining good relationships, and reporting with contractors and government stakeholders at the Palika level and federal level
  • Communicate openly with RWDC (and NIVAS) about construction-related issues that arise
  • Timely reporting of activities to the executive director of NIVAS and frequently communicating with the US-based team.
  • Support in the development of documents for the Social Welfare Council
  • Work with local stakeholders to take their input into the design and actively support the approval of the design at the local level

Phase: Future

  • All above-noted tasks. 
  • Managing the construction budget of local contractors, preparing contracts, and reviewing bid documents of local contractors 
  • In-depth quality control management of all homes built by local contractors.

Desired Background

  • 4 Year Degree in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Architecture (preferred but not required)
  • 4+ Years’ Experience in Design, Construction, and/or Project Management
  • Strong understanding of Nepal building code 
  • Applications: Google Drive, Google Docs, Microsoft Office. AutoCAD is a plus.
  • Fluent in written and oral Nepali. Strong English skills preferred.

  • Willingness to travel to remote villages through local transportation or hiking. Where safety concerns exist, an assistant, guide, or porter will be provided.
  • Comfortable with village lifestyle, including living with families during field visits and regular interactions with construction workers
  • Keen ability to form positive relationships with families, village leaders, and stakeholders
  • Unwavering commitment to fairness, equity, and justice for all people
  • Keen understanding of Nepali culture from local to government to professional
