One Heart Worldwide (OHW) is an International Non-Governmental Organization that has been working in the area of Maternal and Neonatal Health (MNH) since 2011. OHW works with local communities and local health service providers to develop a culturally appropriate Network of Safety around mothers and infants, by raising awareness, teaching good practices, and distributing essential equipment to ensure that mothers and infants survive delivery and the first months of life.

Details / requirements:

Position: Construction Field Engineer

Duty Station: Kathmandu and Bardibas Cluster Office with field visits at simulation lab establishment sites.

The Construction Field Engineer will facilitate and manage the establishment of the simulation lab, including the renovation of the lab and the management of interior furnishings and AV equipment, at respective project implementation hospitals. This role will work in close collaboration with the project management team in Kathmandu, as well as the cluster office and the respective hospital management team and engineers.

Major Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Coordinate with Project Coordinators/Training manager and the hospital's project focal person and engineers regarding the renovation, furnishing, interior designing and AV aid management work at respective hospitals. 
  • Develop a need assessment/feasibility study tool conduct a feasibility study and submit a report with a renovation plan. 
  • Develop a detailed budget and renovation, furnishing, interior designing and AV aid fixing plan based on local market price. Which includes pricing and exploring construction materials, contractors, workmen, paintings, plumbing, electrical wiring/lighting etc.
  • Develop a locally appropriate renovation plan considering the weather, culture and availability of resources. Prepare Drawings, Specifications, Bills of Quantities(BOQs), etc.
  • Ensure that renovation work is as per Drawings, Specifications, Bills of Quantities(BOQs), etc.
  • Ensure the quality and consider the infection prevention factor, direct sunlight factor, moisture and dust proof. 
  • Serve as a facilitator for the Contractor, Project Coordinator, Hospital Focal Person, and Hospital Engineer to discuss and clarify the renovation and establishment plan for the simulation lab.
  • Act as a liaison person between the OHW and sub‐contractors, if any
  • Regularly make supportive supervision visits to the project’s site, oversee the works and guide the contractors/builders to ensure the quality of the work.
  • Provide the project completion report (separately for each hospital) with actual cost, the material used and the number of manpower used for auditing purposes.
  • High-quality before and after photos of the hospital renovation are provided, along with timely submission of the report.
  • Perform any other duties related to the scope of the assignment as determined by the Supervisor

Academic qualifications and work experience: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with at least two years of experience in a related field.
  • Experience in dealing with government stakeholders.
  • Hospital/health facility renovation experience will be an added advantage.

Skills and abilities

  • Commanding skills in MS Office Packages and Auto-CAD 
  • Knowledge of tendering procedures, construction norms & laws and computational techniques
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at a time
  • Excellent communicator, with report-writing skills
  • Having a two-wheeler vehicle license is preferable
