Compensation and Benefit Survey

for the Nepal Red Cross Society

Background

The Nepal Red Cross Society (NRCS) is the largest humanitarian organization in Nepal, operating mainly through a network of 89,000 volunteers from over 1,600 offices, with a presence in every district, it works in the areas of community health, blood transfusion, disaster risk management, water and sanitation and youth engagement. It has approximately 300 paid staff, of whom 135 are based at its Kathmandu headquarters.

NRCS is updating its structure with a new constitution and an aim to develop dedicated municipal branches to align with Nepal’s federal structure.  It is also facing a new funding environment in light of changes in global development and humanitarian financing.  New elections for NRCS governance at various levels will be held shortly, meaning that a newly mandate leadership will take the helm with a number of choices to make about future directions.

In support of this process, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) is commissioning a comparative salary survey on behalf of the NRCS.  The aim is to review the salary structure to ensure that it is competitive, fair and appropriate in order to attract and retain talent.

Project objectives

This project will benchmark the NRCS remuneration packages for its staff to ensure that they are relevant in the prevailing market rates. IFRC is thus seeking a company with strong knowledge of the labour market in Nepal and the necessary connections with Nepali institutions to allow it to carry a remuneration package survey for similar work of comparable institutions related to similar staffing profiles.
