Karkhana Samuha is an NGO that focuses on making innovation in education inclusive and accessible to people, especially those on the margins, to achieve an equitable society.

At Karkhana Samuha, we practice participatory decision-making and co-creation by bringing partners, collaborators, and end users into every stage of our work. Our approach is guided by Human-Centered Design, helping us design with empathy and purpose. We use our Think, Make, Play, Improve (TMPI) Cycle as the foundation for how we design, create, and learn. We start by thinking creatively to shape ideas, then make quick prototypes to test and explore them. Through play, we reflect, gather feedback, and refine what works. These operational models are proven by academic literature and experience to lead to more innovative ideas and provide a meaningful voice to the intended end-users.

To make our process sustainable, we build Communities of Practice (CoP), spaces where educators, innovators, and partners learn together. We design learning resources that scaffold the growth of these communities and digital platforms that keep the learning ongoing, with the goal of gaining, sharing, and implementing knowledge to innovate locally and make a global impact.

Karkhana Samuha is part of the network of social enterprises, which comprises Karkhana Private Limited, a for-profit focused on designing STEAM learning kits, and Karkhana Global, a US-based non-profit focused on connecting innovative organizations in the global south with resources, expertise, and peers in high-income countries. All three partner organizations remain committed to a shared vision “to nurture a spirit of innovating locally to make a global impact,” but with varied missions and independent governance structures.

Position Overview

The Communication Associate will be responsible for implementing and managing Karkhana Samuha's day-to-day communication activities. The role leads social media management, content development, website updates, project communication support, event documentation, and communication outreach activities while ensuring consistent visibility of organizational and project achievements.

Key Responsibilities

A. Digital Communication and Social Media Management (35%)

  • Manage and maintain all organizational social media platforms.
  • Develop monthly content calendars and publishing schedules.
  • Create, write, edit, and publish social media content independently.
  • Monitor platform performance and prepare monthly analytics reports.
  • Coordinate with designers, photographers, videographers, and project teams to ensure timely content production.

B. Website and Content Management (20%)

  • Update and maintain organizational website content regularly.
  • Publish project updates, blogs, stories, and event highlights on digital platforms.
  • Draft newsletters, articles, impact stories, and communication materials.
  • Maintain communication archives, media assets, and content repositories.

C. Project Communication and Campaign Management (20%)

  • Develop communication materials for projects and campaigns.
  • Coordinate with project teams to gather stories, participant feedback, case studies, and communication content.
  • Develop campaign content and outreach materials as required.

D. Event Documentation and Storytelling (15%)

  • Attend project events, workshops, outreach activities, and field visits.
  • Capture photos, videos, interviews, testimonials, and participant stories.
  • Draft event reports, success stories, blogs, and communication summaries.
  • Organize and manage event documentation and multimedia records.

E. Communication Coordination and Research (10%)

  • Research trends related to education, climate action, sustainability, and digital transformation.
  • Support communication-related administrative and coordination tasks.
  • Assist in outreach activities and stakeholder engagement initiatives.
  • Support internal communication activities as required.

Qualifications & Requirements

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Communication, Media, Journalism, Marketing, Development Studies, or related fields.
  • Minimum 1-2 years of relevant experience.

Essential Skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both English and Nepali.
  • Experience managing organizational or professional social media platforms.
  • Ability to create, edit, and publish engaging digital content across multiple platforms.
  • Basic experience managing and updating website content.
  • Proficiency in Canva, Google Workspace, and other digital communication tools.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Ability to coordinate with cross-functional teams and communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders.

Essential Attitudes & Competencies

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Creative mindset with an interest in storytelling and audience engagement.
  • Proactive, self-driven, and able to work independently while collaborating effectively within a team.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Photography and videography skills.
  • Experience in nonprofit or development sector communication.
  • Basic understanding of digital marketing and campaign management.
