About the project

Nepali Yuwa in Climate Action and Green Growth (TheYouthCAN.org) project is funded by the European Union to promote the involvement of young Nepali people in green growth, environmental protection, and combating climate change. TheYouthCAN.org is a four-year-long project that has been implemented in Madhesh Province, Karnali Province, and Sudurpashchim Province through the consortium partners Youth Innovation Lab (YI-LAB), Restless Development Nepal, CREASION, and CDMS.

TheYouthCAN.org focuses on working with young people, and empowering and providing them a platform to aid towards the post-COVID recovery and development process. Furthermore, the activities under Climate Fellowship, Climate Smart Entrepreneurship, Mentee-mentorship, Digital Advocacy, and Youth Sounding Board work towards empowering young people, providing them employment opportunities, generating innovative ideas to address climate and environmental issues, and advocating for policy changes to promote environmental protection.

Job Description

The Short-Term Climate Fellowship Coordinator will support the final phase of the Climate Fellowship project, focusing on the coordination, finalization, and documentation of key deliverables. The coordinator will work closely with the DRR Expert, provincial and municipal governments, to finalize and endorse the Local Disaster Climate Resilience Frameworks (LDCRFs) across Madhesh provinces. The role includes organizing the Climate Fellowship Graduation Ceremony, conducting end-line assessments and monitoring visits, compiling final reports, and ensuring compliance with organizational and donor requirements to successfully close the project.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

1. Coordination and Implementation

  • Coordinate with provincial and municipal governments for the finalization and endorsement of the developed Local Disaster Climate Resilient Framework (LDCRF) in target municipalities.
  • Work closely with the DRR Expert and technical team to finalize and compile LDCRF reports of Madhesh Province
  • Support the organization of the Climate Fellowship Graduation Ceremony, including coordination with Climate Fellows, municipal representatives, and relevant stakeholders.
  • Ensure smooth completion of all pending project activities in line with the approved work plan and donor requirements.

2. Monitoring, Evaluation, and Documentation

  • Coordinate and support the endline assessment of project municipalities to document results, challenges, and impacts of the Climate Fellowship program.
  • Conduct field monitoring and evaluation (M&E) visits as needed to verify data, collect feedback, and assess project outcomes.
  • Gather and document key learnings, success stories, and best practices from Climate Fellows and municipal engagements.

3. Reporting and Closure

  • Prepare and submit the final narrative and assist in financial reports of the Climate Fellowship project in coordination with the finance and technical teams.
  • Contribute to the project completion report, including summaries of activities, outputs achieved, and lessons learned.
  • Maintain proper documentation and ensure compliance with both organizational and donor requirements during project closure.

4. Coordination and Compliance

  • Maintain consistent communication with Climate Fellows, provincial focal points, and the DRR Expert throughout the finalization phase.
  • Ensure all activities and deliverables comply with YI-Lab’s policies and donor guidelines.
  • Provide timely updates to the project management team regarding progress, challenges, and completion milestones.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Climate Science/Studies, Disaster Risk Management, or any other relevant field. Master's preferred. 
  • At least three years of working experience in Climate Change Adaptation, Disaster Risk Management, Vulnerability and Capacity Assessment. 
  • Understanding and knowledge of Bipad Portal and prior experience of working with local governments to develop LDCRP is an advantage.
  • Working experience with young people and youth engagement is an asset.
  • Prior experience of working with EU/USAID/FCDO funded project would be a plus.
  • Ability to develop and maintain coordination and contact with partnered Provincial and Municipal governments
  • Coordinate with young people and guide them accordingly.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in organizing events, consultation, and training.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English and Nepali.
  • Attention to detail, ability to follow procedures, meet deadlines, track progress, and work independently and cooperatively with team members.
  • Advance skill in using Computer and IT, and good experiences in using the digital platform.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and database management.
  • Knowledge of GIS, mapping tools, and data analysis will be highly preferred.
  • Ability to use digital communication tools (Zoom, Teams, Google Workspace).
  • Skills in designing tools such as Canva will be considered a plus point for communication and visibility.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for engaging diverse stakeholders.
  • Good organizational and time-management skills with ability to handle multiple tasks.
  • Commitment to safeguarding, gender equality, and social inclusion (GESI).
