Human Rights and Environment Development Centre (HuRENDEC) Nepal, Kalikot is a leading non-profit making Non-Government Organization (NGO) registered in Kalikot district, Nepal. Since its’ official establishment in 1997 (2053), it has been working on need-based action oriented multi-disciplinary areas through social mobilization especially focusing on research, Human Rights, Lobby and Advocacy for the rights of women, children and socially disadvantaged groups. Its major areas for working are Livelihood support, Micro Enterprise Development, Good-governance, Disaster Risk Reduction, Rehabilitation/Recovery Response, Natural Resource Management and Environment friendly rural infrastructure, Sustainable Utilization of (natural) Resources and Promotion of Renewable Energy Technologies for addressing adverse effects of the Climate Change.

At present, we are seeking deserving candidates for following positions for Kalikot district.

1. Civil Engineer-1

Contract Type: H-SC 7

Duty Station: Manma, Kalikot Karnali Province (with frequent field visit)

Report to: Program Director

Purpose of the Position:

Civil Engineer will be responsible for overall construction related activities/components of HuRENDEC in close coordination with board member, program director and related project coordinator. S/he will closely work with rural municipality, project staffs, HuRENDEC team to bring positive synergy to increase adaptation capacity of vulnerable groups.   

Job Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Feasibility study, design, drawing, estimate, construction supervision, quality assurance, progress measurement in line with engineering standards and norms for rural infrastructures, 
  • Introduce evolving construction and engineering technologies, to facilitate implementation of innovative engineering solutions.
  • Design the preparedness actions, providing technical recommendations and guidance and monitor the management of risks.
  • Take lead on the implementation of HuRENDEC and donor Policies, standards, norms and practices related to engineering field
  • Take the responsibility of procurement plan and procurement/ material tracking (MTS). 
  • Prepare generic specification/ standards for quality assurance so as to make sure that they are consistent throughout all schemes.
  • Prepare the overall health, safety & Environment (HSE) plan and ensure that site supervisor tailors it based on the project nature.

Key Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor degree in Civil Engineering or related Engineering discipline
  • S/he has a minimum of four years working experiences in the rural infrastructure development sector (government, development partners, I/NGOs, private sector etc 
  • Experienced over engineering feasibility study, design, drawing, estimate and supervision, quality assurance and quantity measurement  of rural infrastructures (roads, trails, bridges, irrigation, building, drinking water supply etc),
  • have knowledge of engineering specializations in relation to seismic mitigation, rural infrastructure, effects of monsoons, or environmental requirements,
  • Excellent communication in English and Nepali – both oral and written,
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite - inclusive of MS Project, and MS PowerPoint and AutoCAD and valid driving license.

2. Monitoring,  Evaluation and Learning (MEAL) officer-1

Contract Type: H-SC 6

Duty Station: Kalikot (frequently movement in project areas)

Report to: Project Coordinator

Job Summary: 

The position holder is responsible for monitoring and evaluation and documentation of project activities within the project framework. S/He will responsible to effectively implement the activities and ensure the quality of work. S/he will also be responsible for good quality report and develop lesson learnt documentation establishing routine data collection and result based project monitoring system. 

Key Role and Responsibilities: 

  • Develop M&E framework of project to measure the outcomes against goals and indicators throughout the project period;
  • Lead  planning, implementation  and  M&E  activities  of  project  in  coordination  with Project coordinator;
  • Provide technical guidance and ensure adequate understanding of agro forest based livelihood interventions, value chains and entrepreneurship,
  • Ensure timely production and submission of technical and financial reports of the project in line with  organizational and donor requirements;
  • Produce case studies/knowledge products. 
  • Support in ensuring the GESI, protection related components well integrated during the implementation of the programme.
  • Develop innovative and successful approaches and good practices in areas of conservation and livelihood  in the project; 
  • Facilitate the project team in target setting, reporting, database management, and developing MEAL plan and its effective implementation
  • Facilitate and support in planning and conducting surveys, monitoring, progress review, and internal evaluation of the project
  • Ensure and oversee the implementation of the project’s accountability mechanism at the community level
  • Supervise and support to field level staff, providing practical advice and guidance especially in agricultural components
  • Ensure documentation and generation of the knowledge products as guided by the project document
  • Ensure that lesson learnt are documented and shared within HuRENDEC, project teams, communities and stakeholders

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors Degree in social science or related studies
  • At least three years‘work experience in relevant field with implementing, monitoring and reporting of projects.
  • Experience in livelihood related project, forest based enterprise and agriculture value chain projects in rural settings will add value.

Key Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong proficiency in English and Nepali language
  • Proven excellent report writing and learning documents developing skills
  • Practical knowledge in M&E framework, data management and experience in Planning and Monitoring of the project
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking; ability to produce routine progress summaries for reporting purposes.
  • Build a congenial working relationship with CBOs, stakeholders, partners and other projects
  • Ability to take responsibility, meet deadlines and make progress with minimum Supervision
  • Excellent inter-personal organizational skills, including time management, and ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure  
  • Strong interest to work on agriculture value chain based livelihood improvement approach and experienced  in  agriculture‐based  business  plan  development
  • Commitment to work for full project duration
  • Understanding of database management skills
  • Good photography and Videography skills will add value
  • Willingness to travel to field offices and work in difficult environment according to travel requirements.

3. Technical Assistant (TA/JT) –Agriculture 

Contract Type: H-SC 5

Duty station: Palata and Pachalajharana Rural municipality, Kalikot

Report to: Agriculture Officer 

Purpose of Position:

Under the support and guidance from agriculture officer, TA/JT will be implementing the activities planned. Support in the programme planning to make it more benefitting. TA/JT (Agriculture) will be responsible to perform communication and training of farmers; diagnosis agriculture related problems and needs as well as priorities them; obtain solutions for recommendations; assists to implement project activities. More specifically, s/he will be responsible for following tasks

Job Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Performing extension of agriculture related activities.
  • Facilitate to establish farmers groups, follow up regular farmers meeting and identify the agenda for discussion.
  • Support agriculture officer for high yield production and establish demonstration plot for drought resistance verities.
  • Support agriculture officer and project coordinator to establish seed bank, promote indigenous seed and establish proper mechanism to storage. 
  • Facilitate farmers training activities.
  • Carry out crop, seed, fruit and vegetables production activities.
  • Perform activities related to soil and soil fertility and agriculture protection activities.
  • Perform activities related to post- harvest, marketing of agriculture products. Collaborate and coordinate with other working agencies in field level
  • Facilitate to form farmers cooperative and marketing of agriculture products with value addition methods.

Key Skills and Qualifications:

  • Diploma in Agriculture, JT or ISc Ag with at least 2 years' experience in related subjectmatter.
  • Able to discover, investigate & make successive plans for agriculture farm and policies of agriculture.
  • Good oral and written communication skills in Both English and Nepali.
  • Good understanding of local language will be preferred 
  • Fluent networking and coordination skills
  • Good interpersonal skills

4. HR cum Documentation Officer

Contract type: H-SC 6

Responsible to: Program Director 

Duty Station: Kathmandu (frequently travel to program areas/district)

Purpose of Position:

The position holder is responsible for taking lead role for logistic support, and technical support of project activities within the project framework. S/he will responsible for good quality report and develop lesson learned documentation. 

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • The Program officer will be responsible to provide logistic support for all office work
  • Provide technical support to the website update and website development
  • Provide IT support as and when needed 
  • Assist for procurement process and obtain goods/ services
  • Support for HR section and staff recruitment process
  • Support and produce organizational documents
  • Support to disseminate ideas and visibility through Facebook, Twitter etc
  • Responsible for prioritizing work orders and organizing tasks based on deadlines.
  • Support for admin and finance, bookkeeping
  • Design of organization publication and report preparation
  • Undertake other activities as required by the organization.

Key Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree (masters degree preferred) in management or related studies
  • At least three year’s work experience in office management 
  • Fluent networking, coordination skills and good interpersonal skills
  • Well experienced and good facilitation skill in conducting meeting, orientation, trainings, workshop and conference.
  • Proven skills in using PageMaker, PowerPoint and database program
  • Additional Competency for all positions
  • Willingness to present and visit field area at all times when needed
  • Willingness to work out of office hours when required
