(Female Only & Residential Position)

“A world where every child is safe, educated, loved”- Kopila Valley Sewa Samaj is a non-profitable NGO registered in Surkhet, Nepal to provide support for children and families in our community. Our mission is to change the world by empowering Nepal’s children. KVSS programs include a residential children’s home, Kopila Valley School (KVS) for inclusive quality education, women’s empowerment, sustainability, health and wellness, and family development programs. We provide our students with free education, educational materials, health treatment and medicine, counseling, and a place to live. With our innovative future program, we strive to provide our children with career guidance, and scholarships for further studies. Our children’s home provides a safe, loving, and stable home for children in extreme cases of need, when all other options have been exhausted. We do this with our funding partner BlinkNow Foundation and in close ties with the local government and communities. 

Position Summary

The Staff working at KVSS should have patient and passionate about working with children will thrive as childcare. Should be enthusiastic about the growth and well-being of Children, sensitive to their needs, able to mix, relax and interact socially with children and be linked and respected by Children. The Children Home Associate at Children’s Home is responsible for the care, wellbeing, and upbringing of the children living within the KV Children’s Home. Your role is to provide basic parental, pastoral, and holistic care to provide the children with the brightest future possible. It is also your responsibility to manage and coordinate with all the other staff members working within the KV Children’s Home, and make sure that all caregiving roles are running as smoothly as possible.

The Employee will be required to perform the following duties and undertake the following responsibilities in a professional manner.

Job Description

The Main Responsibilities

  1. Make sure that the children at KV Children's Home are cared for and supported in the best way possible.
  2. Support to manage caregivers and other support team members.
  3. Assist in enrichment activities of the children.

Detailed Responsibilities

1. Make sure that the children at Kopila Valley Children's Home are cared for and supported in the best possible way.

  • Create and update routines for the activities of children in Kopila Valley Children Home, and make sure that they are followed properly.
  • Lead daily gathering (sutsang) for children after dinner.
  • Manage activities that are designed to promote physical, mental, and social development of children.
  • Support children in their education- ensure that they study for an appropriate period regularly, and manage interactive activities and support children to learn, grow and feel proud.
  • Support children to make sure that they are done with all the chores that they are supposed to do before school
  • Performing regular check-in with the children in a one-to-one format in order to provide support and engage their needs.

2. Support to manage caregivers and other support team members.

  • Supervise the work of caregivers at the children’s home daily and provide continued feedback for any improvements required to improve services.
  • Coordinate with the admin team in regards to any necessary items for children. 
  • Demonstrate discipline from personal behavior, initiate it for the team to demonstrate, and encourage it to flow from the team to the children.
  • Support caregivers to address any obstacles or challenges they may face.
  • Evaluate the performance of the home caregivers and support them in their professional development.
  • Coordinate with relevant team members to run all other children’s home functions smoothly.

3. Assist in Academic and non academic activities of the Children

  • Support children during their home works and study time. 
  • Assist in non academic activities as planned by the Enrichment coordinator. 
  • Prepare engagement activities independently during their free time with the support of caregivers. 
  • Ensure that children’s study time tables are duly followed as per the time table. 

Additional expectations 

  • Take ownership of change and engage and encourage innovation.
  • Build positive working relationships and environment in the organization by bringing solutions to the discussion table.
  • Report to the manager on a weekly basis, and as needed in case of urgent activities.
  • Build and maintain a strong relationship with the children, staff and relevant stakeholders. 
  • Attend weekly staff meetings and share operational updates.
  • Always maintain integrity and confidentiality.
  • The above list of responsibilities is not comprehensive, and candidates may be required to take on additional responsibilities, as determined by your supervisor.

Must Have

  • Education: +2 in Social science or any discipline. 
  • Experience: At least 3 years of proven experience in a residential care or child protection field 
  • Language: A good communicator, fluent in Nepali and basic in English
  • Skills and Abilities: Ability to manage, mentor and lead children, youth, their activities
  • Passionate about and cares for children and vulnerable population; initiator, and competent in managing caregivers, children and basic operations.
  • Works collaboratively and independently with the least supervision required.

Note: This is a residential and immersive role where the Children Home Associate needs to be hands on caregiving as well. Preferred Female.
