About the organization: Youth Innovation Lab (YI-Lab) is a not-for-profit civic tech company that works at the intersection of emerging cutting-edge technological tools and their applications by equipping young professionals to solve emerging challenges in our community. YI-Lab’s mission statement is, ‘to engage young people to bridge science to people and policy through innovation’. YI-Lab harnesses indigenous knowledge, citizen science approach, develops low-cost technological solutions, promotes open data, promotes entrepreneurship, and conducts evidence-based advocacy campaigns. About the project: The UDAAN (Unleashing Digital Acceleration and Ambition of Nepali Youth) project, led by Youth Innovation Lab together with Heifer Project Nepal, NAAMII, and Women In Animation and supported by the European Union, is a nationwide initiative aimed at empowering young women and men across Nepal with the skills, opportunities, and resources needed to thrive in the digital economy. 

Implemented over four years, the project focuses on advancing digital literacy, fostering innovation and entrepreneurship, and creating pathways to employment through training programs in AI, coding, and creative technologies, as well as internships, fellowships, and innovation hubs in partnership with local governments, academic institutions, and the private sector. 

With a strong commitment to gender equality and social inclusion, UDAAN prioritizes marginalized and underrepresented youth, contributing to a more inclusive, resilient, and future-ready workforce in Nepal. The action is implemented through four interconnected components:

  1. PATHSHALA - Digital Skills Development: Builds future-ready digital skills through AI, Coding, and Animation schools. Using tiered, hybrid learning, it prepares young Nepali women and men for jobs, innovation, and entrepreneurship in the digital economy. 
  2. KARYASHALA - Innovation and Experimentation: Transforms youth skills into real-world digital solutions through hackathons and bootcamps. It nurtures innovation with mentorship and incubation, turning ideas into scalable impact. 
  3. KARMASHALA - Employment and Career Pathways: Connects young Nepali youth to real-world work experience through internships and fellowships. It bridges skills to careers by placing youth in government and private sector roles, building employability and professional confidence.
  4. NITISHALA - Policy and System Strengthening: Strengthens youth participation in digital governance through policy dialogues, innovation hubs, and civic engagement. It bridges youth, communities, and local governments to institutionalize inclusive and sustainable digital transformation.  

Job Description: The Bootcamp and Hackathon Coordinator will be the focal person for designing and managing the bootcamp and hackathon models as part of the UDAAN project. Initially, these events will occur at the provincial level, with the most innovative solutions advancing to the national level. The coordinator will be responsible for outreach, building partnerships with academic institutions and youth groups, and ensuring a structured, inclusive approach to idea generation and participant selection for each province.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 3–5 years of experience in organizing and managing hackathons, bootcamps, or other similar events.
  • Proven experience in coordinating training programs, especially in digital skills, innovation, or entrepreneurship.
  • Strong understanding of the challenges and opportunities within the Nepali youth ecosystem, especially in digital skills development.
  • Experience in partnership-building and working with youth organizations, academic institutions, and the private sector.
  • Familiarity with digital tools and platforms used for learning and hackathon events.
  • Experience in donor-funded projects is an advantage
  • Excellent communication, coordination, and reporting skills

Key Responsibilities

1. Bootcamp and Hackathon Design & Implementation

  • Lead the design, development, and execution of bootcamp and hackathon models at both provincial and national levels.
  • Design and implement a rigorous selection process for ideas at the provincial level, where selected ideas will proceed to the provincial bootcamps and hackathons. The winners from each province will be selected for the national competition.
  • Oversee the execution of the bootcamps and hackathons, ensuring smooth participant recruitment, session delivery, and post-event evaluations.
  • Collaborate with academic institutions, local governments, and private sector partners to craft relevant problem statements for the hackathons.

2. Outreach & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Conduct outreach workshops at the provincial level, engaging youth groups, academic institutions, and local communities to generate ideas and drive participation.
  • Build partnerships with sectoral experts, academic institutions, local governments, and the private sector to secure mentorship and support for the bootcamps and hackathons.
  • Engage with youth networks and marginalized communities to ensure that the events attract diverse participants, particularly from underrepresented youth groups.

3. Outreach & Promotion

  • Develop and implement outreach strategies to engage potential participants for the bootcamps and hackathons at both the provincial and national levels.
  • Use digital platforms, social media, and in-person outreach to create awareness and generate excitement for the events.
  • Maintain effective communication with stakeholders and ensure compliance with the UDAAN branding and visibility guidelines.

4. Sectoral Collaboration

  • Explore and secure collaboration opportunities with the private sector, including sponsorships, challenges, and mentorship programs, to enrich the hackathons and provide participants with real-world exposure.
  • Foster relationships with industry leaders to ensure the hackathons address real-world challenges and provide valuable exposure for participants.

5. Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI)

  • Ensure that all bootcamps and hackathons are designed and implemented with a focus on gender equality and social inclusion.
  • Provide targeted outreach to ensure the participation of women, youth from marginalized communities, and other underrepresented groups.

6. Monitoring and Evaluation

  • Track participant progress during bootcamps and hackathons, ensuring all sessions meet educational objectives.
  • Collect feedback from participants, mentors, and partners to improve future events.
  • Prepare regular reports and contribute to the project’s monitoring and evaluation activities.

Reporting Line

The Bootcamp and Hackathon Coordinator will report to the Project Lead and work closely with program, technical, and consortium teams.
