Accountant/Program Associate IRI-Nepal

Background
The International Republican Institute (IRI) is a nonprofit, nonpartisan INGO that supports and shares best practices with democratic institutions worldwide. Since 1983, IRI has worked to advance democracy and freedom in more than 100 countries and currently has offices in over 30 countries. In September 2018, IRI opened its first office in Nepal with a new staff based in Kathmandu. IRI seeks a Program Associate/Accountant (PA) for IRI’s five-year NitiSambadPolicy Dialogue program. This position is contingent upon funding.
The PA will be responsible for coordinating, monitoring, and reporting all IRI expenses in the Kathmandu headquarters and across all aspects of the IRI program. They will work closely with the Regional Program Director (RPD) and Washington, DC – based staff to ensure projects stay on budget and all expenses are accounted for in time for deadlines.
Position Requirements
- College degree in accounting or financial management
- 3–5 years’ professional experience in managing accounting for international organizations, preferably US organizations working in Nepal
- Fluency in English & Nepali
- Strong written and oral communication and presentation skills
- Prior experience in project management or accounting for development projects, ideally funded by aid agencies
- Demonstrated experience working with international donors and in-depth understanding of donor regulations and processes
- Demonstrated project management experience including ability to motivate and manage staff
- Ability to communicate skills and experience to others as a trainer, advisor or technical consultant
- Ability and willingness to travel wihtin the country as needed, for up to several days at a time
- Ability to work independently and as a member of a team to coordinate and lead the efforts of other professionals to effectively meet program goals
Primary Responsibilities
- Work closely with the RPD to manage the overall program and program deliverables, including the fulfillment of annual workplans, budgets and compliance with donor regulations.
- Contribute to the preparation and presentation of proposed implementation plans, budgets, reporting requirements, and templates as required by USAID.
- Oversee staff in the implementation of strategic programs that support the development of improved policy research capabilities for subnational officials in Nepal’s young federal government
- Monitor office expenses, in collaboration with Kathmandu and IRI/Washington staff, to ensure that field expenditures remain within budget.
- Ensure compliance with local laws as applicable to employing staff and operating IRI’s Kathmandu field office.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
