Action Nepal partnership with OXFAM is seeking dynamic energetic and result oriented professionals for the following positions to intervene WaSH, SHELTER, EFSVL,DRR and GENDER Project in 2 VDCs (Satyadevi and Tripureswor) of Dhading district.

Shelter Assistant (Sub-Engineer)

Duration :6 months (renweable)

Educational Qualification: Diploma in civil engineering/Diploma in Overseer  

Report To: Shelter Officer

PROGRAM IMPLEMENTATION/ KEY RESPONSIBILITY 

  • Ensure that every stage of the shelter activities is implemented on time and according to plan;
  • Along with the field team support the beneficiary selection process where applicable in consultation with the DDRC, VDC Secretariat, Ward Citizen Forum and any other relevant stakeholder and in consultation with the community; 
  • Conduct community consultation and FGDs regarding possible needs and shelter intervention options
  • Carryout mason training on earthquake resistance building construction technology in the community.

  •  

      Carry out the assessment, survey and implementation of construction activities in field as per approved drawing and estimation.
  • Identify local carpenters to be trained in safe construction practices / used for proto-type installation; 
  • Ensue that build back safer techniques are properly utilized in the working VDCs; 
  • Develop and design IEC materials to sensitize the affected communities; 
  • To help identify the cash transfer channels used at the local level if required; 
  • Conduct regular monitoring of shelter activities;
  • Conduct community awareness sessions about safe shelter construction;
  • Coordination with local stake holder for the implementation of program.

  • Document all shelter activities and communicate appropriate case studies.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:  

Professional skills and qualification needed in the position 

  • Diploma in civil engineering/diploma in overseer. at least two years of working experience in earthquake resistant building construction field, experience in post disaster program is desirable.
  • Should possess TOT on mason training on earthquake resistant building construction technology.
  • Knowledge of shelter solution for livestock; 
  • Knowledge of earthquake resistant construction methods;
  • Knowledge of the difficult terrain in Nepal and experience of working in remote areas in appropriate emergency/ transitional shelter; 
  • The ability to create and follow work-plans and to provide progress reports; 
  • Familiarity with cash as a delivery mechanism; 
  • Well developed interpersonal and team skills and proven ability to be flexible in demanding situations;
  • Good knowledge of the Nepalese Building Code;
  • Good communication skills both in English and Nepali
  • Commitment to humanitarian principles and action;
