CRS is an international NGO based in the United States that works in over 100 countries to promote human development by responding to major emergencies, fighting diseases, poverty, and nurturing peaceful and just societies. CRS started its operational presence in Nepal in response to the 2015 earthquake, providing immediate emergency response in multiple districts and earthquake recovery support. CRS Nepal has been coordinating the reconstruction through the leadership of the National Housing and Settlements Resiliency Platform (NHSRP), formally known as Housing Recovery and Reconstruction Platform (HRRP) since March 2017 to provide technical and information management support to relevant national, provincial and local governments. Similarly, CRS expanded its programming to other disasters responses (Lamjung, Jajarkot) in country as well as other sectors, namely Livelihoods, DRR and Climate Change. CRS Nepal is also implementing a USAID-financed livelihood technical assistance program, Farmer to Farmer (F2F), in Bagmati, Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpaschim Provinces.

Catholic Relief Services - United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (CRS) is an international non-governmental organization that partners with local organizations and Non-Governmental Organizations ("NGOs") to assist the poor and vulnerable around the world through community-based relief and development programs. For more than seventy (70) years, CRS has played a leading role in promoting human development by responding to major emergencies, fighting disease and poverty, and nurturing peaceful and just societies. CRS has been supporting Caritas Nepal for over 10 years on emergency preparedness and response, civil education, trafficking and educational support programs for Bhutanese refugees. 

Since early May 2015, CRS has been contributing its extensive expertise in shelter and in water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), as well as livelihoods programming and cash transfers, to the relief effort and now to recovery programming for households affected by the 2015 Nepal earthquakes. CRS, is providing earthquake recovery and rebuilding support to affected populations in Gorkha district through implementing partners. CRS is now recruiting a several position for CRS Nepal’s long-term programs. The position will be based in Kathmandu and Gorkha, Nepal.

Applicants for the below positions must be Nepalese citizens. All the positions require excellent written and spoken English, as well as competency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel) 

Natural Resources Management (NRM) Coordinator: (1 position - based in Gorkha)

The NRM Coordinator will be working with partner level staff who working on NRM and livelihood activities.  Together with community leaders, the coordinator will be responsible for community assessment and sensitization exercises, trainings, effective communication of the project at the field level and coordination with different stakeholders within the communities, conflict resolution, and learning ventures. The NRM Coordinator will report to the Livelihoods Program Manager and will work closely with the Agriculture/Livestock Coordinator, Senior Social Mobilizer, MEAL staff, partner Livelihood technicians and other partner staff.  The NRM Coordinator will work closely with all concerned to ensure the projects are of high quality related to these technical areas and are adapted in response to any safety, dignity or access issues that are identified by the community. 

The NRM Coordinator will alsodevelopingPlan of Action of NRM, Build Staff and Community Capacitiesand implementing NRM activities.

Required Expertise

  • Demonstrated skills in planning, implementing and monitoring NRM programs involving key areas like soil and water conservation, watershed approaches, micro-irrigation works, community forestry etc.
  • Strong skills in developing financial estimates, detailed implementation plans etc for implementation of NRM activities in field.
  • Strong skills in facilitating training sessions for building capacities of partner staff and communities. 
  • Good writing and documentation skill. 
  • Past experience of developing high quality resource material/training content for capacity building.
  • Ability to work calmly under pressure in a rapidly changing context.
  • Adaptable and flexible to the jobs task and job time.
  • Ability and willingness to travel regularly to the remote field locations and support field teams.
  • Politically and culturally sensitive with qualities of patience, tact and diplomacy,
  • Expertise and skills to coordinate and liaise with the government and other relevant stakeholders. 
  • Ability to effectively delegate while ensuring key deliverables are produced on a timely basis
  • Strong mentoring, training and coaching to partner staff
  • Ability to make quick assessments of situations on the ground, problem-solve, and act appropriately.
  • Appreciation for community based processes for sustainable NRM outcomes

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A bachelor's or post-graduate degree in an appropriate field such as; environmental science/ Water Resource Development and Management (WRDM) / Agricultural engineering/ watershed management etc
  • At least 5-7 years of field level experience in technical role with NGO/INGO/Government in watershed/NRM projects is desirable.
  • Demonstrated technical skills and experience in managing watershed 
  • Demonstrated experience in staff management and supervision
  • Demonstrated experience in program coordination and government relations
  • Experience with capacity strengthening and partnership building
