Action Nepal, a highly recognized NGO working in a diversified sector and geography of Dhading is searching for the potential candidate for Nepal Earthquake Response Project (NERP) supported by Oxfam.

The candidates should demonstrate developed communications and influencing skills, excellent knowledge of area of work and increasingly contribute to team planning, proactively assumes more responsibility and/or more difficult areas of work in agreement with manager.

Position: Housing Engineer (1 nos.)

JOB DESCRIPTION

Overall Objective of the Position

The Housing engineer is responsible to oversee implementation of the project in the field.

Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • To assist in supervising, monitoring and implementation of the Shelter/ Housing project in the area of intervention;
  • To ensure the quality of implementation of the project as per the program standards guidance and based on the plan/proposal;
  • To assist with planning of project activities under the supervision of the Program Coordinator
  • To manage and oversee the field staff and provide them technical instructions
  • To monitor and supervise the construction works and activities as per the agreement;
  • To assess the activities undertaken and ensure efficient use of resources in close collaboration with the Program Coordinator
  • Technical support for implementation of Shelter projects (including: drawing , design BoQ/estimates,   implementation plan, etc.);
  • Report monthly project progress report within (Program Management Framework);
  • Ensure staff safety and security in the field (particularly workers, foremen, field officers, etc.)
  • Liase and coordinate with partners as well as relevant stakeholders (OXFAM, DUDBC, NRA, local govt. bodies, etc.)

Qualifications Required

  • Educational background Bachelors in civil engineering 
  • At least three years of work experience in managing and implementing earthquake resistant building construction 
  • Ability to layout, implement & monitor/supervise the construction work as per design/drawing & specification.
  • Ability to coordinate and manage staff and project activities;
  • Familiarity with the aid system, and understanding of governmental requirements;
  • Strong organizational and supervisory skills;
  • Demonstrate strong inter-personal skills;
  • Ability to travel and work under difficult conditions and to meet deadlines under pressure;
  • Highly motivated and with a desire to work with local communities;
  • Ability to work with culturally diverse groups of people;
  • Excellent spoken and written English;
  • Working knowledge of computers using MS Word and Excel among other packages and Auto -CAD. Communicate effectively on email and use of internet.
  • Being a strong team player and adept at creating a strong team spirit;
  • Ability to make some appropriate decisions and to refer to the program Coordinator whenever it is needed
