POSITION TITLE: Communications and Outreach Expert

LOCATION: Kathmandu, Nepal

PROJECT: SWITCH Asia Project (PPP for 4Gs)

REPORTS TO: Director of Winrock International, Nepal

TYPE OF APPOINTMENT: One-Year (with probable extension)

PROJECT SUMMARY:

Sustainable production of commercially viable products from municipal wastes through public private partnerships in Green SMEs, Green City, Green Agro Products, and Green Employment Generation (PPP for 4Gs) (SWITCH) Project will pioneer an innovative public-private partnership (PPP) between Ilam Municipality and the private sector that fuels a commercially-driven cycle of solid waste management. The PPP for 4Gs model integrates four dimensions of sustainable solid waste management: green SMEs, green city, green agricultural products and green employment generation. SMEs will create a streamlined waste management system for degradable and nondegradable waste that incorporates collection, recycling, and the management of a new plant that generates compost for tea and vegetable cultivation. PPP for 4Gs supports Ilam Municipality's visionary "Green City" initiative while creating new green jobs and setting a benchmark for replication in Nepal's remaining 58 municipalities.

Our integrated project is grounded in participatory, socially inclusive, and gender-balanced design, and will be carried out by Winrock International in partnership with Positive Planet, and local partner Namsaling Community Development Center (NCDC). To prepare all communication strategy, documents, public relationship and strategy for better outreach while implement above mentioned activities, Winrock International is proposing a Communications and Outreach Expert (CO Expert) based in Kathmandu as per below terms of references.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Communications and Outreach Expert will play an important role in writing quality reports for the project, manage media document preparation, communications and public relations activities, including media planning, strategy development and media relations of SWITCH Asia project as well as reports and other documents for Winrock International.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Communications and Outreach Expert will cover the quality of reports and other document/communication information writing for donors, partners and other stakeholders. The position will have primary focus on preparation and implementation of annual and specific communications plans, managing communications messaging for key audiences, coordinating website content, preparing project focused written materials, ensuring consistent and effective requirement of all Winrock International communications products to maximize visibility in line with the communication objective of Winrock International. Provide stories and contribute to the story development, proposal writing, and maintaining high quality of communication products for donors, partners and stakeholders is also equally important.   • Edit, review and/or write official publications and reports
  • Support program staffs in preparing business proposals/concept notes
  • Final proofreading, editing and formatting of project reports.
  • Support program staffs in searching necessary secondary literatures, reports, and other documents on web
  • Nepali-English-Nepali translation of project documents
  • Prepare and maintain Facts & Figures: accurate, up-to-date compendium of tables, charts, graphs of projects
  • Provide communications support for project coordinators on developing outreach materials and other project related announcements and events; special events such as project meetings, seminars, workshops
  • Provide ongoing communications activities such as responding to inquiries, maintaining calendar of events and communications mailing lists and evaluating the impact of key communications tools
  • Update website, social media and all relevant platforms
  • Assess and categorize the relevance of information posted on the Winrock website (i.e., identifying old postings)
  • Assist in the preparation, collection, and revision of information material for the website in collaboration with the respective programs
  • Ensure the presence and appropriate layout of up-to-date information on the Winrock website
  • Work as a team player to support web-related work and project visibility materials
  • Supervise and coordinate with communications technical service providers
  • Undertake other related duties as may be assigned by Director of Winrock International

EXPECTED DEVELABERABLES:

  • Expert input for concepts, stories/case studies and business proposal writing
  • Expert input for brochures, posters, media stories and other communication and outreach material preparation
  • Expert Input for all project reports to donors, stakeholders and partners
  • Expert input in all communication materials, information for proof reading, editing and translation wherever applicable

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Master’s Degree in communication, journalism, English or literature from a reputable university or institution
  • Minimum of five years’ worth of experience in Communication and outreach sectors in International NGOs
  • Knowledge on Development project implementation, communication materials preparation and dissemination
  • Knowledge on report writing, case studies development and effective communication mechanism design and implementation in the development sector 
  • Candidates with experience in renewable energy financing and waste management are highly encouraged to apply
