DESCRIPTION:

POSITION TITLE: Business Development Support Officer

DUTY STATION: Dailekh or Doti with frequent visit to other districts  

REPORTS TO: Project Manager

DURATION: Initially for 1year, with possibility of extension until project period.

START DATE: As early as possible.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

PROJECT SUMMARY: 

The UKaid funded Rural Access Programme began in 1999 and now it is running in third phase, RAP3. The programme improves road access in remote areas and assists local people, especially the poor, to capitalize on new road-related opportunities. In RAP3, besides improving road access, it works in renewable energy sector as well. Winrock International as one of the delivery partner of RAP3 program works in renewable energy sector (Micro-Hydro, Solar PV applications, Improved Water Mills, Improved Cook Stoves, etc.) in 8 districts, namely Humla, Jumla, Mugu, Kalikot, Dailekh, Bajura, Achham & Doti.

POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direction and supervision of the Project Manager, this position is responsible for managing business development related activities in all program districts based at Dailekh or Doti.

Job Description:

Develop RET Post-Construction Services and Business Service Providers

Plan, develop and supervise the development of RET infrastructure services, notably those related to operation and maintenance (post-construction services) stipulated in the project-related documents:

  • Assist RET-using communities, institutions and households to develop O&M systems that ensure the availability of adequate financial, management and technical skills for O&M and adequate access to O&M related financial and material resources, equipment and Business Services. 
  • Assist communities and RET/scheme users in identifying and realising income generation opportunities through multi-purpose use of RET facilities
  • Assist Business Service Providers to develop technical and business skills, by ensuring each has the required business plans, technical skills and business skills, by assisting business planning and accessing capacity building opportunities within RAP3 and outside
  • Assist district teams
  • Assist RAP3 Partners
  • Provide technical expertise in coordinating effective collaboration and joint action plans amongst key value chain actors such as financial institutes, local Chamber of Commerce and Industries, RET Companies, dealers and traders/ buyers for effective infrastructure services development;
  • Planning and delivering trainings to RET-users, BSPs and institutions related to enterprise development, income generation and local skills building programme.

Support RET Component Management

Support the Project Manager in planning and monitoring and all PCS-related capacity building and services market systems development 

  • Assist Project Manager to develop project strategies, market development interventions, activities and policies related to economic activities  
  • Support Project Manager in monitoring progress and evaluation of project activities including financial performances 
  • Document and disseminate case studies, best practices on economic activities and market development for various potential products
  • Coordinate with district level partners, district local governments, line agencies, communities, project beneficiaries, private sector service agents and suppliers, consultants and other stakeholders at project level for effective delivery of project activities
  • Assist the Project Manager to maintain good relations with project beneficiaries, partner organizations, district local governments and stakeholders
  • Provide inputs in developing and strengthening networks of peers and professional contacts, within and outside the organization 

Minimum Qualification and Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in economics/business administration with at least five years of work experience in related fields or Master’s degree with 3 years of experience 
  • Good knowledge and experience with market development approaches, enterprise development and business development services 
  • Strong communication, analytical and report writing skills with fluency in spoken and written English and Nepali 
  • Knowledge and skills in basic computing, demonstrated inter-personal skills in working with a multi-disciplinary team 
  • Willingness and enthusiasm for working with rural and vulnerable communities living in remote areas of the country.
  • Previous work experience in MEDEP and Similar projects will get higher preference.
