Capacity Building on Field-Based Documentation under the Green Evolution Project - Nepal
1. INTRODUCTION
Welthungerhilfe (WHH) is one of the largest private aid organizations in Germany and works towards a world without hunger. WHH has been working in Nepal since 2012 in partnership with civil society organizations, government institutions, and local communities. Its programmes support socially marginalized and economically disadvantaged populations to strengthen resilience, improve food and nutrition security, and realize their right to adequate food through sustainable and systems-based approaches.
WHH is implementing the regional programme "The Green Evolution: Ways to Transform Food Systems in India, Bangladesh and Nepal" from April 2024 to May 2028. The programme seeks to contribute to food system transformation through agroecological principles and works across micro, meso, macro, and regional/global levels.
In Nepal, the programme focuses on Karnali Province, particularly selected areas of Surkhet, Dailekh, and Jumla, including Barahatal Rural Municipality, Birendranagar Municipality, Dullu Municipality, Aathbis Municipality, and Tatopani Rural Municipality. The programme works with LI-BIRD, ANSAB and HPC to promote agroecological production systems, strengthen extension and learning systems, improve value chains, and support evidence-based policy and institutional processes.
A key component of the Green Evolution programme is the co-creation, documentation, analysis, and dissemination of knowledge generated through project implementation. The programme recognizes that effective agroecological practices, indigenous knowledge, innovations, challenges, and lessons from field implementation are often insufficiently documented and therefore remain underused for learning, replication, advocacy, policy engagement, and scaling.
The programme specifically envisages systematic documentation of evidence through short videos/films and photographs, as well as capacity building of project teams and communities in knowledge management, communication, and effective documentation. At farm and landscape level, the programme aims to demonstrate and document agroecological production systems through Farmer Field Schools (FFS), demonstration farms, community-level micro-planning, landscape approaches, and relevant value chain interventions.
Against this background, WHH Nepal seeks to engage a qualified consultant/consulting agency to systematically document selected agroecological practices and field experiences under the Green Evolution project in Nepal and to strengthen the practical documentation capacity of selected project staff, partners, and/or community participants. The assignment will be primarily field-based and will combine practical training with mentored field documentation and production of high-quality knowledge products.
2. PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES OF THE ASSIGNMENT
The purpose of this assignment is to generate high-quality, practical, and field-based documentation of agroecological practices, innovations, and learning emerging from the Green Evolution project in Nepal, while simultaneously strengthening the capacity of project actors to document field practices, evidence, and stories effectively.
The assignment should capture not only what practices are being implemented, but also how they work, why they are relevant, what changes they are contributing to, what challenges remain, and what conditions are required for replication or scaling. The documentation will contribute to project learning, knowledge management, communication, advocacy, policy engagement, and future programme development.
