Introduction:

Defence Infrastructure Organization (Nepal) (DIO(N)) British Gurkhas Nepal provide technical/ engineering support to British Gurkhas Kathmandu BGK, British Gurkhas Pokhara BGP & British Gurkhas Dharan, BGD.  The department's primary output is the delivery of new infrastructure and the management and maintenance of existing infrastructure, including electrical distribution systems, mechanical plant, water treatment facilities, boilers, heating plant and other critical life support infrastructure in support of HQ BGN in Nepal.

This position is advertised at 40 hours per week.

Job description

  • Conduct minor repairs on electrical and mechanical equipment and systems such as building wirings system, pumps, water heating and hot water system, gas, refrigeration, catering kitchen equipment and electrical power tools.
  • Interpret minor drawings and specifications including risk assessment (also dynamic risk assessment) and method statements for the tasks required.
  • Dismantle mechanical and electrical pump and identify any faults and rectify as required.
  • Safely operate electrical power and mechanical tools such as industrial hammer drill, all kinds of drill machines, fixed pipe thread cutting machine, fixed drill machine and portable metal cutting electrical tools.
  • Erect and dismantle scaffolding as per instruction and safely work on height including Mobile Elevating Working Platform as required.
  • Support on grounds maintenance including trench work.
  • Carryout minor plumbing and pipe fittings.
  • Identify sewerage drain blockage and rectify as required.
  • Be a skilled person for confined space and working at height in accordance with JSP 375 safe system of work.
  • Conduct before and after inspection of tools and equipment you are using and report any faults as required.
  • Take measurements and fabricate the electrical conduit and trucking in accordance with BS7671 wiring regulations and design specification.
  • Work on Galvanized Iron and Plastic pipes for pluming installation and maintenance in accordance with L8 requirements and specification.
  • Taking precautions, install cables on the electrical conduit and trucking in accordance with BS7671 wiring regulations and design specification.
  • Erect and dismantle scaffolding as per instruction and safely work on height including Mobile Elevating Working Platform as required. 
  • Safely operate grounds maintenance equipment such as lawn mower, brush cutter, hedge trimmer, saw pruner and other cutting tools etc. to support Groundsman for the maintenance of grass and trees including trench work, as required. 
  • Work on Galvanized Iron and Plastic pipes for pluming installation and maintenance in accordance with L8 requirements and specification. 
  • Assist office business as and when directed by line managers.
  • Any other tasks commensurate with grade and competence, as directed by line management

You must have:

Work Experience:

  • Served a minimum of 3 years as a semi-skilled labour or have served a recognised apprenticeship or be able to demonstrate experience up to the equivalent standard.
  • Any other multi-skilled qualifications will be an added advantage.
  • Candidate doesn’t necessary all trade skills but has to have knowledge, competence, and commitment of minimum 2 trades.
  • Proven experience, qualifications, and training is preferable for this role to deliver the job responsibility effectively and efficiently.

Qualification:

  • Academic – Minimum SEE education or Higher Secondary Education (+2/HSEB)
  • Technical – Hold minimum CTEVT’s level II qualification/s in relevant construction engineering or equivalent qualification from another Technical School / College / Institute.
  • English – Good Written and Spoken
  • Nepali – Good Written and Spoken

Benefits & Working Environment:

  • Salary 74,443.00 NPR per month (Permanent).
  • Gratuity after completing 3 years’ service.
  • Dashain Bonus & Retirement Funds i.e. EPF and CIT (optional).
  • Public holidays 10 days and Annual leave 25 days (Annual leave will be increased to 30 days after completing 5 years of service).

Security and Medical Check:

Successful candidates must meet the security and medical requirements before they can be appointed. The level of security needed is a Govt of Nepal Police Report for employment in Nepal. Pre employment medical check will be carried out by BGN.
