Shelter Technical Officer

Mission East, founded in Denmark in 1991, is an international humanitarian organisation, working in Eastern Europe and Asia. The organisation’s activities in Nepal presently focus on building the inclusion and resilience for the most marginalised and vulnerable groups living in Karnali and Earthquake Affected population.

Position: Shelter Technical Officer (Kathmandu with frequent travel visit to project implementation sites)

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Supervision on the field sites and assists in community mobilization.
• Monitor equipment and material used during the program.
• Ensure compliance with the National/international building code and in line with natural disaster building standards i.e. SPHERE Standards.
• Perform progress and final inspection of shelters to ensure quality and completion of work.
• Provide instruction to beneficiaries on safe and sustainable construction methods and also answer technical questions from the community in an understandable and clear way.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Engineering degree from reputed University in Nepal or other country.
• 1 year experience of working with marginalized communities and also working in remote areas.
• 3+ years working with a professional Engineering/Architecture firm. 
• Able to work in team and demonstrate initiative.
• Self-motivated, able to prioritize and time management. 
• Willing to work in remote area.
• Written and spoken English with fluent conversational abilities.
