Introduction:
Senior Medical Centre Assistant (SMCA) is responsible for pharmacy management. The secondary role involves Equipment Care (EC) management, Health and Safety (H&S) lead, Routine care and Healthcare Governance (HcG) role.

Job description:
Pharmacy:
- Medicine Management lead is SMO and day to day task delegated to SMCA British Gurkhas Kathmandu (BGK)
- Responsible for Dispensary and Medicine Management under the SMO BGN for BGK
- Responsible for Management of Controlled Drugs under the SMO BGN for BGK
- Act as nominated deputy and second key holder for the SMO in the management of Controlled and Accountable Drugs.
- Coordinate with Defence Section British Embassy and Government of Nepal authority for Controlled Drugs, General Medicines and vaccines Import License.
- Stock ordering lead for BGK- Responsible for the management of medical stores including medicines, vaccines, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for BGK including pharmacy using ECAT system
- Dispense medicines and advise patients about their medications.
- Conduct stock query on KOMODO and liaise with Team Leidos UK when necessary.
- Liaise with Quartermaster (QM), Movement Control Centre (MCC) and Mechanical Transport (MT) Office to investigate receipt of demand of BGK and British Gurkhas Pokhara (BGP).
- Liaise with Regional Pharmacist in the UK or DPHC Pharmacist as required
- Coordinate for quarterly and annual CD return and monthly medicines return to the Regional Pharmacist.
- Prepare and submit discrepancy report to DPHC (O), as required.
- Coordinate with BGP pharmacy staff regarding pharmacy matter.
- Keep record of local purchase of Medicines as required.
- Manage pharmaceuticals in BGK Medical Module.
- Manage the receipt and return of Golden Hour Boxes (GHBs) to UK.
- Responsible to manage and account Medicines and Drugs during Out of Hours in accordance with Cold Chain Storage policy.
- Responsible to record and update all CAS/Device alerts, inform all clinician and act if necessary.
- Maintain and update local working policies as and when required under the direction of Regional Pharmacist.
- Act in accordance with DPHC (O) Pharmacy and Medicine Management Standard Operating Procedure (SOP)
Equipment Management:
- EC lead for Medical Centre BGK.
- Liaise with Practice Manager (PM)/Regional Equipment Manager (REM)/ Medical Dental Servicing Section (MDSS) regarding any issues with the equipment and solve them.
- Hold equipment inventory and maintain equipment checks. Report any faults to REM and MDSS team.
- Coordinate monthly equipment snap and managerial check/inspection.
- Conduct monthly equipment-care training program.
- Coordinate Land Equipment Audit (LEA)and Logistic Support Inspection (LSI) in consultation with PM and REM.
- Coordinate with DECA and DESA UK for equipment calibration and disposal for both BGK and BGP.
- Liaise with PM/MDSS team and prepare for annual equipment inspection and calibration.
- Liaise with SMO and DPHC (O) RHQ and demand equipment as required.
- Perform monthly checks and assure serviceability of the equipment in Retrofitted Land Rover.
- Manage and assure serviceability of the equipment in BGK Medical module.
- Coordinate with and support Pokhara Medical Centre and Senior Recruiting Medical Administrator (SRMA) regarding Equipment Care
- Responsible for items issued by QM BGN as AinU holder.
- Act in accordance with EC lead TOR and DPHC (O) Equipment Care Directive (ECD) and BGN ECD.
Health and Safety:
- H&S Lead for Medical centre BGK.
- Procure and manage BOC gases, and overseas safe return of gas cylinders back to the UK from both BGK and BGP.
- Represent medical centre at quarterly H&S meetings and collate quarterly SHEF returns for Quartermaster (QM).
- Responsible for COSHH assessment, annual COSHH return and submit to QM BGN.
Routine Care:
- Chaperone/translation assistance to the clinician in medical centre and escort patients to out-patient appointments when required.
- Ensure that data entered into patients’ records are contemporaneous, accurate, legible, concise and coherent.
- Maintain confidentiality and respond to complaints in accordance with DPHC policy.
- Assist with specimen delivery to laboratory.
Healthcare Governance:
- To collate mandatory statistics and carry out audits as per DPHC(O) Audit calendar.
- Participate in Practice, HCG meetings and regional meetings.
- Report accidents in the medical centre in accordance with MOD policy.
- Report Safeguarding concerns immediately to the SMO or PM.
- Raise Significant Events with the SMO or PM and record on the ASER system.
- Complete all mandatory training as stipulated by DPHC.
- Participate in Continuing Professional Development in accordance with personal learning goals and requirements.
Accountability:
- Responsible to SMO as line manager.
- To recognise the limitations of their own experience, seeking advice and referring to others when appropriate.
- Undertake regular performance reviews and annual appraisals. Within these recognize the need for on-going education and training and accept responsibility for undergoing relevant courses in discussion with the SMO.
- Responsible to declare Conflict of Interest particularly around Local Procurement of Medicines/materiel.
Confidentiality:
- To maintain confidentiality of information relating to patients, client’s staff in accordance with General Dara Protection Regulation (GDPR).
- Any breach of confidentiality may render an individual liable for dismissal and/or prosecution.
Miscellaneous:
- Responsible to support in Casualty Clearing Station during the event of a major medical incident under the direction of Registered Nurse and the SMO.
- Support BGN with BGK contingency store management.
- Assist HLO/Billing Clerk regarding medical bill clarification i.e. Verify pharmaceutical product and names, avoid fraud when and where medical bills are not clear or unentitled items are purchased.
- To undertake any other duties commensurate with the role and within bounds of competence.

Work Experience:
- Minimum 3 year of work experience in related medical field
Qualification:
- Academic – Above Higher Secondary Education (above +2 / A levels)
- Required
- Buttercups training or
- NVQ Level 2 Pharmacy Assistant Course accredited by General
- Pharmaceutical Council or
- Diploma in Pharmacy (PCL Level) and registered in Nepal Pharmacy
- Council as Assistant Pharmacist.
- Desirable
- Diploma in Pharmacy (PCL Level) and registered in Nepal Pharmacy Council as Assistant Pharmacist.
- Health Assistant accredited from Nepal Health Professional Council
- Technical – Good working IT knowledge of MS Office Applications
- English – Excellence Written and Spoken
- Nepali – Excellence Written and Spoken
