Overview

Regimental Duty Staff (RDS) are a vital department of British Gurkhas Nepal (BGN), responsible for the physical security of the BGN camps in Kathmandu, Pokhara and Dharan. Working in small teams in a shift system, RDS provide physical security to serving personnel, families, VIP visitors, and the property of BGN. During periods of Gurkha selection, the RDS provide crowd-control, and continue to guard the camp in teams to the highest standards.

Key responsibilities include

• Control of camp access in and out.
• Conduct personnel and vehicle searches as necessary and issue entry passes accordingly.
• Issue keys to authorised personnel and keep a record.
• Operate and monitor CCTV.
• Respond to telephone queries.
• Provide perimeter fence security by patrolling day or night and report any suspicious activities.
• Ensure that all offices/buildings are secured and report any defects.
• Provide the fire piquet for helicopter landings.
• Provide enhanced security services during Gurkha selection.
• Be prepared to support the camp’s Standard Chartered Bank counter when required.
• Be prepared to form part of a quick reaction force to react to intruders or natural disasters.

The role is fulltime (40 hours per week) on a shift system.

Success Profile

The ideal candidate will have a keen interest in understanding their duties and be a team player. They will also show clear leadership potential, have good verbal and written communication skills in both English and Nepali, and have a good sense of customer service. Candidates must ensure their experience and qualifications address these requirements.

Eligibility

Internal candidates: SZ1 for promotion and SZ2 for level transfer.

External candidates: As per the above criteria/profile.
