IUCN is a membership Union uniquely composed of both government and civil society organisations. It provides public, private and non-governmental organisations with the knowledge and tools that enable human progress, economic development and nature conservation to take place together. Created in 1948, IUCN is now the world’s largest and most diverse environmental network, harnessing the knowledge, resources and reach of our more than 1,400 Member organisations and 15,000 experts. This diversity and expertise makes IUCN the global authority on the status of the natural world and the measures needed to safeguard it Our broad membership also means we can incubate ideas and are a trusted repository of best practices, tools, and international standards. We provide a neutral space in which governments, NGOs, scientists, businesses, local communities, indigenous peoples’ organisations and others can work together to solve environmental challenges and achieve sustainable development. Working with many partners and supporters, IUCN implements a large and diverse portfolio of conservation projects worldwide. These projects combine the latest science with traditional knowledge of local communities to work to reverse habitat loss, restore ecosystems and improve people’s well-being. www.iucn.org https://twitter.com/IUCN/

IUCN, as the Accredited Entity, is the implementing entity of the 'Gandaki Basin Climate Resilient Project (GBCRP)' . The Department of Forests and Soil Conservation (DoFSC) under the Ministry of Forests and Environment, Government of Nepal, and the National Trust for Nature Conservation (NTNC) are the executing entities of the project. IUCN Nepal country office is the TA provider for the project. The total budget of the project is USD 32.7 million, including grant from Green Climate Fund (GCF) of 27.4 million and the co-financing amount of USD 5.3 million from the executing entities. The Project Management Unit (PMU) is housed at the DoFSC and the Project Execution Support Unit (PESU) is housed in IUCN to support the PMU for the execution of project activities.
Gender
and Social Inclusion (GESI) is a key component of the project, under which the
Gender Action Plan (GAP) is implemented. The GAP ensures that women are
actively involved in project implementation and benefit from on-the-ground
activities. These interventions are designed to be culturally and socially
acceptable to women, targeting women-headed households to increase their
incomes and reduce their vulnerability to climate change. Project facilitators
will engage women and women's groups to take advantage of livelihood
opportunities and strengthen their capacity to participate confidently in
community and project structures.
The GAP, along with other project activities, targets Indigenous Peoples (IPs), Dalits, women, and other vulnerable groups. It is envisioned to directly benefit 300,000 people, including 104,000 men, 196,000 women, including 60,000 Dalits, and 100,000 IPs, by raising awareness of climate threats and appropriate responses. Overall, the project aims for 65% of women to be direct beneficiaries.
