The International Water Management Institute (IWMI) is an international research organization working in the field of agricultural water management in Nepal and other countries in Asia/Africa. We conducted last year a pilot project on participatory video in Dhanusha District, whereby a group of women learnt the basics of film-making and directed a short film on their perceptions of climate change.
We are planning to extend the project in 2013, train another group of farmers on film production and support them throughout the year in producing a series of films reflecting their adaptations strategies over three seasons.
We are looking for a professional film-maker with experience in participatory video, good knowledge of farming practices and rural life and a basic understanding of climate change issues.
The assignment will be the following:
1) Train a group of 6-7 farmers on all the stages of film-making for around 10 days in Dhanusha District. At the end of the training, the participants should be able to build a story, conduct interviews and shoot relevant visuals, assemble the visual sequences and do a rough editing.
2) Follow up every six weeks the work of two groups of participants (six men and six women) in two villages, ensure they are on track and provide guidance and technical support as needed
3) Do the final editing of the 18 films produced by the participants
Required Qualifications and Skills: University degree in communication/film-making.
Skills in film production, including shooting and post production. Demonstrated experience in participatory video. The applicant should also have very good communication skills, in particular with farmers, and should be flexible and autonomous.
Previous experience of working with a research organization would be an asset.
Language Requirements: Fluent in English and either: Nepali, Hindi or Maithili.
Location and Length of Service: The training will take place in Dhanusha district from 12th to 23rd March 2013. The other activities will take place from April till December 2013.
Salary: Please send us a budget disaggregated for the three activities described above. Transportation, food and accommodation will be covered separately by IWMI. The equipment to be used by the participants for filming and editing will also be provided by IWMI.
