Professional documentary film-maker Project: Participatory video on climate change vulnerability and gender Start date: 3rd November 2012 The International Water Management Institute (IWMI) is an international research organization working in the field of agricultural water management in Nepal and other countries in Asia/Africa. We are looking for a professional documentary film-maker with extensive experience of filming in rural areas. We will be training a group of 6-7 women in Dhanusha District on film-making for 3 days. On the last day women will be shooting their own video on their perception of climate change. Women’s videos will be shown at a workshop in Kathmandu, gathering policy-makers, scientists, donors and NGOs working on climate change issues. Your assignment will be to document the training process during these 3 days through a visual medium. Expected output is a short film of around 8-10 mn in Maithili/Hindi with English subtitles. The film aims at highlighting whether participatory video can be used as an empowerment process for vulnerable groups, including women. It will also be shown to stakeholders at the workshop in Kathmandu. Required Qualifications and Skills: University degree in communication/film-making. Skills in film production, including shooting and post production. Demonstrated experience in making documentaries, preferably with a research organization. Experience in documenting rural development/water management issues would be an asset. The applicant should also have good communication skills, in particular with women and farmers, and should be flexible and autonomous. Language Requirements: Fluent in Hindi and English. A good knowledge of Maithili is not a requirement but would be an asset. Location and Length of Service: The shooting will take place in Dhanusha district during 3 days from 4th to 6th November 2012. The output is expected by end of November 2012. Salary: Please send us a detailed budget including equipment, shooting and post-production.
