Introduction:
Plant Technician is responsible to support the DIO (Nepal) mission by operating and maintaining the mechanical and electrical plants such as hot water boilers, borehole, sewage treatment, water treatment plant and water heating plant etc.

This position is advertised at 40 hours per week.
Job description:
- Operation and maintenance of the BGK water treatment works i.e. Rainwater, swimming pool and Drinking water treatment plants.
- Monitoring and record keeping of underground aquifer by taking dynamic and static water level readings at defined frequencies in the BGK Water Safety Plan.
- Monitoring and recording differential pressures across various water filtration vessels and conducting back wash of filtration vessels as required.
- Monitoring the performance of reverse osmosis desalination plant and performing chemical cleaning using citric acid and sodium hydroxide as necessary, taking all necessary safety precautions at required intervals.
- Monitoring the performance of ion-exchange ammonia removal plant and chemically regenerating with hydrochloric acid as necessary, taking all necessary safety precautions, and ensuring only neutralized solution is discharged as waste by treating it with sodium carbonate.
- Monitoring and maintaining pH control plant by conducting regular inspections of the plant and preparing sodium carbonate dosing solution as required, taking all necessary safety precautions.
- Monitoring and maintaining residual disinfection control plant by conducting regular inspections of the plant and preparing calcium hypochlorite dosing solution as required, taking all necessary safety precautions.
- Monitoring the overall performance of the water treatment processes by conducting regular chemical tests on produced water to ensure it is within current UK water quality standards and keeping detailed records.
- Co-ordinate and record external testing of drinking and swimming pool water.
- Maintain and record the drinking water storage level and report to the PPM Foreman if the water level is near the minimum level.
- Carry out basic chemical testing of swimming pool water and maintain accurate records, to ensure it is always within current UK water quality standards.
- Take the relevant immediate action (laid down in the BGN water safety plan) if the max/min chemical parameters of the drinking water supply or swimming pool, water are breached.
- Monitoring the overall mechanical performance of diesel fired boiler plants, solar water heating plants and air source heat pump system temperature and flow rates at pre-defined points in the system and keeping detailed records.
Responsibilities:
- Operate and monitor Boreholes as required.
- Operation and basic routine maintenance of solar hot water heating plant and associated accessories in Building 7.
- Operation and basic maintenance of Swimming pool solar water heating plant and associated accessories nearby Building no. 9.
- Operation and basic maintenance of Rainwater harvesting, and filtration units in various locations in BGK Camp.
- Carry out inspection, service, adjust and overhaul all components of Heating Hot and Cold-Water System in accordance with UK Water Supply Regulations.
- Operate and maintain on-site Boiler Plant, maintain adequate fuel levels in service tanks for running boiler plant.
- Support line management in their tasks, including deputizing for them when required.
- Any other tasks commensurate with grade and competence, as directed by line management.

Work Experience:
- Minimum 2 years of proven experience and training in the operation of a Water Treatment Plant or be able to demonstrate competence as a Plant Operator.
Qualification:
- Academic – SEE / Higher Secondary Education (+2/A level)
- Technical
- Show proof of previous experience in the operation and maintaining the Water Treatment Plant 1-2 years or be able to demonstrate competence as a Plant Operator.
- Have good knowledge of water treatment and testing, Capable of conducting a wide range of chemical tests on water sample, using a Palin test kit.
- Have good knowledge of the operation and maintenance of a water heating plant (Boiler Plant).
- CTEVT’s level I or II in relevant technical disciplines. Plumbing is an added advantage.
- English – Fair Written and Spoken
- Nepali – Excellent Written and Spoken
