Under the direction of Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche, the Tergar Schools project is the first of its kind, weaving together traditional Tibetan Buddhist principles and practices with contemporary approaches to learning. The project is supported by an international advisory board with a wealth of experience. The Tergar School Kathmandu, located in Sitapaila, Kathmandu is a non-profit boarding school, home to 80 students between the ages of 5 - 13, as well as 10 teachers, 10 caregivers, 4 kitchen crews, and 3 administrators. We are a trilingual school inclusive of English, Tibetan, and Nepali.

Tergar School Kathmandu is seeking teachers for Lower Secondary and Primary Levels. Under the supervision of the Tergar School Kathmandu Head of School and Principal, our teachers seek to implement our school philosophy, which weaves together Buddhist wisdom and contemporary approaches to learning. The primary responsibilities of our teachers include: developing a supportive classroom space conducive to learning and emotional well-being; developing and delivering lesson plans based on our core curriculum; and engaging with students in all ways necessary to ensure the best possible learning experience.
The Tergar School weaves together Buddhist wisdom and methods with contemporary fields of study and science using innovative teaching approaches to foster curious and creative learners who thrive in and contribute to a complex, interconnected and changing world.
Design and implement engaging, integrative lesson plans in their classroom.
Establish a developmentally appropriate, positive, inclusive, and safe learning environment that is conducive to learning.
Advance positive interpersonal relationships with coworkers and students.
Communicate proficiently with students.
Implement Tergar Schools curriculum.
Prepare for assigned classes and provide lessons at designated times.
Integrate suitable use of technology.
Meet with students, school staff and administrators to discuss education-related issues, and attend staff meetings.
Administer assessments as appropriate.
Help to plan, coordinate, and execute class field trips and learning experiences of all kinds.
Determine and support standards of classroom behavior, and upholding school-adopted discipline policies.
Plan and supervise assignments and activities for teacher assistants and volunteers as required.
Monitor and support students during the non-class time to ensure healthy interactions.
Bachelor’s degree in an applicable field.
Proficient knowledge of teaching strategies and methods.
Excellent people skills.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
Outstanding organizational skills.
Availability to work extended hours on occasion.
Language: Preference will be given to candidates with proficiency in Tibetan, English, and Nepali. Proficiency in local Himalayan dialects is also preferred.
Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
