The Role

As a Legal Officer, you will support and strengthen iProbono's activities in Nepal. You will work with our team in Nepal to oversee the implementation of ongoing activities and develop new ones in line with iProbono’s program strategy and broader vision.

You will have a strong commitment to social justice, access to justice, and human rights values. As a qualified lawyer, you will have a high level of personal and professional integrity and trustworthiness.

Responsibilities

• Implement Nepal activities in line with the organisation’s vision, mission, and objectives.
• Work with an existing team of lawyers to develop new activities and further the work of iProbono in Nepal. 
• Manage and strengthen relationships with existing partners and stakeholders and identify and develop new ones, as required. 
• Oversee the work of the Junior Legal Officer. 
• Stay informed of relevant issues and share them with the iProbono team.
• Work with affiliated lawyers in the ongoing cases and provide support as required. 
• Assist in the development of new cases and litigation processes.   
• Represent iProbono in Nepal and at relevant events and forums. 
• Ensure effective program reporting in coordination with the Junior Legal Officer, Nepal and the Senior Program Officer, South Asia.

Skills and Experience

• LL.B. degree with 4 years of relevant work experience or LL.M. with 2 years of relevant work experience. 
• Registered with the Nepal Bar Association.
• Good knowledge and understanding of court procedure, contemporary human rights issues, and the CSOs landscape in Nepal. 
• Excellent drafting in Nepali and English, strong legal research skills, and understanding of human rights law. 
• Ability to plan and deliver training and workshops.  
• Strong verbal and written communication skills in English & Nepali.
• Good planning, supervising, and program development skills.
• Ability to interact and develop contacts with key stakeholders including civil society organisations, legislators, and legal service providers.
• High level of proficiency with MS Office and Google Workplace Suite.
• Comfortable working independently and as part of a small team.
• Ability to travel, if required.
