Digital Broadcast Initiative Equal Access (DBI EA) is a nonprofit, non-government organization established in February 2004 in Nepal with a goal to create positive change by providing critical information using Communication for Development (C4D) approaches. DBI EA aims to accomplish this goal by using the media, state of the art information and communication technology (ICT), effective partnerships and local community engagement. Since its inception in 2004, DBI-EA has implemented projects on an array of thematic areas including media development, health, agriculture and livelihood, human rights and transitional justice, good governance, primary education and early childhood development, gender issues, adolescent issues, and local development among others. DBI-EA creates customized communication and outreach solutions to address the critical issues across Nepal. This is accomplished through close partnerships with community radios and local media, which ensures greater local ownership, impact and sustainability. The communication component includes designing, producing compelling multilingual audio and multimedia content and broadcasting through national and local FM networks. Outreach activities include a wide range of activities like training, orientation, local partnerships, local content, Radio Discussion Groups (RDGs), public hearing, discussion forum, and edutainment fair. All activities are guided by DBI EA’s experiences in Social and Behavior Change Communication (SBCC).

Equal Access International (EAI), an international not-for-profit that worksin Asia and Africa, helps communities drive sustainable and transformative change through a proven participatory media, technology, and outreach model. In Nepal, EAIis as an implementing partner on the USAID funded Civil Society: Mutual Accountability Project (CS:MAP) which aims to foster a more legitimate, accountable and resilient Nepali civil society capable of advancing the public interest. EAI seeks applications from creative and competent candidates for the following position: 

Media Manager– 1 (Based in Kathmandu)

Based in Kathmandu, the Media Manager will work in close coordination with and report to the CS:MAP Media Director. The Media Manager will provide implementation level leadership and quality assurance support on CS:MAP media activities under objectives 1, 2 and 3 at the federal and sub-national level, and will be overall responsible for policy development support; media production for advocacy and oversight; digital engagement through ICTs and campaigns; and training, capacity development and networking support.

Requirements: A master’s degree in journalism, or IT, with at least three years of experience in media content development, journalism, or ICT4D related projects; or, a bachelor’s degree with more than 5 years of hands-on experience in one or more areas outlined in the detailed scope of work; Strong understanding of 1) civil society role in advocacy and governance,2) IVR, social media platforms, and media content development, linking IT to governance, 3) Nepal’s media policy and legal environment, including recent developments,and international principles that govern media policy and operation; Excellent training, mentoring and coaching skills; Ability to understand and analyze changing political scenario and issues and ensure that content design takes such changes into consideration; Good interpersonal skills and the ability to independently lead and participate in key meetings; and Excellent English language skills with the ability to independently draft, edit and finalize reports and analyses.
