VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

RTI International, the International Education Division, is currently accepting applications for a full-time Teacher Training Manager(one position) to support the Early Grade Reading Program (EGRP), a USAID-funded program to improve early grade reading in Nepal. The program works closely with and supports the Government of Nepal’s design and initial implementation of a national education model that standardizes early grade reading in public schools. This position is based in Kathmandu with expected travel to other target districts across Nepal.

The Teacher Training Manager will, under the supervision of Materials and Instruction Advisor\Team Lead, provide support and technical assistance to develop Early Grade Reading (EGR) teacher training materials/manuals - both Teacher Professional Development (TPD) module and refresher training along with Teacher Professional Support (TPS) training and follow-up trainings for TPS. The Teacher Training Manager will work closely as part of the IR1 team, as well as with technical experts, in order to support Centre for Education and Human Resource Development (CEHRD)/ Human Resource Development Division (HRDD) in assessing training needs, developing training curricula and programs, developing training materials and facilitating and co-facilitating varieties of EGR trainings for teachers, head teachers and other stakeholders. The Teacher Training Manger will, as a teacher training technical point person, also support rolling out of district and cluster level training and monitoring and providing technical backstopping as needed.

Primary Responsibilities:

Under the supervision of IR Team Lead, (s)he will be responsible for providing technical assistance for all EGR training, monitoring and support. (S)he will:

  • Work closely with and support CEHRD/HRDD to:
    • Identify capacity building needs at each level, and as appropriate, plan and facilitate capacity building programs.
    • Plan effective teacher training, monitoring and support system in early grade reading across all target districts.
    • Carry out revision and/or development of teacher training materials/manuals (including refresher training, TPD module; TPS training manuals/materials and follow-up training for TPS).
  • Co-facilitate, with CEHRD/HRDD colleagues, Training of Master Trainers for various training roll-out activities.
  • Work closely with and support CEHRD/HRDD, as well as Education Training Centre (ETC), to plan and coordinate the roll out of the teacher training for reading in target languages across target districts.
  • Monitor and provide technical support for implementation, including:
    • Teacher training roll-out.
    • TPS training roll-out and ongoing support/cluster meetings.
    • Periodic, sample-based school/classroom visits with EGRP District Coordinators and GON partners.
  • Undertake monitoring, in collaborationwith CEHRD/HRDDon a sample basis to determine if teachers are applying the intervention and lessons as planned, and provide structured support to district, local units and cluster resource persons for future support of teachers.
  • Support the development of approaches to effective teacher training, monitoring and coaching in early grade reading across all levels of the system.
  • Provide regular support to Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (MOEST) identified teacher training experts with respect to the experience and lessons learned.
  • Contribute to and facilitate TPD and TPS-related capacity building for EGRP regional/district staff.
  • Contribute to various assessments related to time on task, teacher effectiveness, and other aspects that play a role in effective teaching.

Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • A master’s degree in education or a related field with 6 years of relevant experience or Bachelor’s Degree and 10 years of experience in developing teacher training curricula and coordinating teacher training activities and inputs.
  • Significant experience in education development for reading and/or literacy in early grades.
  • Established working relationships with education government counterparts in order to reach national scale with improved reading performance.
  • Experience in meaningful collaboration with government and ministry counterparts, and local capacity development.
  • Proven ability as a facilitator/trainer and manager.
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with government counterparts and partners.
  • Ability to listen and communicate well both verbally and in writing.
  • Must be professionally proficient and fluent in written and spoken English.
