Introduction:

Defence Infrastructure Organisation (Nepal) (DIO(N)) British Gurkhas Nepal has 68 staff who provide technical/ engineering support to Kathmandu, Pokhara and Dharan.  The department's primary output is the delivery of new infrastructure and the management and maintenance of existing infrastructure, including infrastructure facilities, engineering services and other critical life support infrastructure in support of HQ BGN in Nepal.

Job description:

  • Carryout day to day planning, estimation, and execution routine, urgent, emergency maintenance works and the delivery of self-delivered/contracted new works in BGN (Pokhara) including preventive maintenance, in accordance with requirements of DIO (Nepal)
  • Supervise the delivery and execution of routine, urgent, emergency maintenance works the delivery of self-delivered/contracted new works and preventive planned maintenance to be conducted by DIO (Nepal) staff and contractor in BGN (Pokhara), required.
  • Plan, estimate and execute the management and demand for stores and resources for all maintenance, new works and works arising from professional inspections, as required.
  • Work on (Property Management Prime Contractor Module) (PROMPCT) software for maintenance cycle and asset management, and update facility jackets on SharePoint, as required.
  • Support the DIO (Nepal) management for managing the projects in accordance with PM tools such as Royal Institute of British Architect (RIBA), as required.
  • Support to manage compliance across the estate through preventive planned maintenance.
  • Conduct tools and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) checks for DIO (N) DIO (Nepal) staff.
  • Support the DIO (Nepal) for performance management (Catch-up) for tradespersons, as directed.
  • Carryout estimating, planning, and managing works arising from Professional Inspections and produce rough sketch, manage stores and forward to complete refurbishment of building facility, as required. Manage stores and forward to complete refurbishment of building facility.
  • Carryout task risk assessments for engineering tasks and review ones produced by skilled persons and contractors.
  • Work as a DIO (Nepal) key personnel (duty foreman) for managing tradesmen for emergency works arising during off hours as informed by authority.
  • Deliver monthly toolbox talks on various areas of expertise, as required.
  • Deputize the Executive Officer Level (EO (L)) Tech in his absence, where required.
  • Support line management in their tasks, including deputizing for them when required.
  • Any other tasks commensurate with grade and competence, as directed by line management.

What you will be doing:

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the works arising from DIO (Nepal) fault report process.
  • Support to manage tasks arising from Professional Inspections.
  • Support to manage tasks arising from Schedule C (Preventive Planned Maintenance).
  • Supervise the work of the number of tradesmen (up to 22) including electricians, plumbers, fridge mechanics, carpenters, fitters, and operators etc. on a daily basis, and report the progress to the management team.
  • Supervise the contractor’s delivered work relevant to job description.
  • Work on PROMPCT to complete tasks daily.
  • Conduct risk assessments and apply them to mitigate the risks associated.
  • Update the facility jackets of assets, as required.
  • Any other tasks commensurate with grade and competence, as directed by line management.

Applicant should have sound electrical backgrounds and served a minimum of 5 years as an engineering technician, preferably within electrical/mechanical construction industry, or be able to demonstrate experience up to the equivalent standard. Candidate should have a minimum of 3 years Diploma in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering with 5 years of industry experience or Bachelor of Electrical/Mechanical Engineering with same number of years of experience. Candidate should have sound IT skills in Microsoft tools such as Office, Planner, Teams and SharePoint etc.

You should have good written/ spoken English and Nepali language skills.  Proven experience, qualifications, and training is preferable for this role to deliver the job responsibility effectively and efficiently. Any other multi-skilled qualifications will be an added advantage. You will be assessed on your competency through an assessment including written, practical and interview test.
