Institute of Himalayan Risk Reduction (IHRR) is an organization established with an objective to assess and understand the risk to contribute to sustainability. Complying with the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction(SFDRR), IHRR envisions to understand the risk and application of interdisciplinary knowledge with Science, Engineering, Technology and Innovation to contribute for risk reduction and bridging of academic research with professionals and policymakers for sustainability. The team consists of professionals with expertise and experiences in the field of disaster risk management in understanding the risk, conducting academic research, and field-level implementations in Nepal and different parts of the world.

Position Title: Field Officer/Associate

Project: VICTORY - Building Citizen Scientists in the region 

Location: Bhimeshwor and Barabardiya Municipalities (1+1)

Duration:  10 months

Background: VICTORY is a groundbreaking initiative implemented by the Institute of Himalayan Risk Reduction, with support from S4W-Nepal and DCA Nepal. The project merges low-cost hardware and innovative software solutions to empower communities and contribute to an Early Warning System. From customized Precipitation Measurement devices to a Citizen Science Crowdsourcing Mobile App with a web-visualization dashboard, VICTORY aims to enhance community resilience and reduce disaster risks in Nepal.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Coordinate and oversee the implementation of VICTORY project activities in the municipalities, ensuring alignment with project objectives and timelines.

  2. Engage with local government officials, community leaders, and stakeholders to facilitate project planning, implementation, and monitoring.

  3. Conduct community mobilization and awareness-raising activities to promote participation in VICTORY initiatives and enhance community resilience.

  4. Facilitate the deployment and operation of Precipitation Measurement devices and Citizen Science Crowdsourcing Mobile App in collaboration with technical experts and local stakeholders.

  5. Provide training and capacity-building support to field staff, volunteers, and community members involved in VICTORY activities.

  6. Monitor project progress, collect data, and prepare regular reports on project activities, achievements, and challenges.

  7. Ensure compliance with project budgets, financial procedures, and reporting requirements.

  8. Represent the project at meetings, workshops, and other relevant forums with local authorities, partner organizations, and stakeholders.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Disaster Management, Engineering, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.

  • At least 3 years of experience in project coordination, preferably in the field of community-based disaster risk reduction or technology innovation.

  • Demonstrated experience in working with local communities, government agencies, and non-profit organizations in Nepal.

  • Strong communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work effectively in a multicultural and multidisciplinary team.

  • Proficiency in Nepali and English languages, both spoken and written.

  • Familiarity with low-cost hardware, software solutions, and community-based disaster risk management approaches is desirable.
