Introduction:

Defence Infrastructure Organisation (Nepal) (DIO(N)) British Gurkhas Nepal has 68 staff who provide technical/ engineering support to Kathmandu, Pokhara and Dharan.  The department's primary output is the delivery of new infrastructure and the management and maintenance of existing infrastructure, including infrastructure facilities, engineering services and other critical life support infrastructure in support of HQ BGN in Nepal.

This position is advertised at 40 hours per week.

Job description:

  • Carry out all the necessary testing, inspection, repair, and maintenance of the electrical installation in accordance with British Standards (BS), primarily BS 7671:2018 (2022), 2nd amendments Wiring Regulations.
  • Work to electrical drawings e.g., installation, circuit diagrams and line schematics.
  • Safely and efficiently operate small electrical portable power tools and static bench power tools (training will be provided if required).
  • Carry out domestic and commercial (industrial) electrical wiring installation including testing and documentation.
  • Carryout installation and maintenance work on various domestic and industrial electrical equipment, including electrical side of water heaters, heat pumps, solar thermal, generators and gas systems etc.
  • Work and organize own tasks, problems, rectification of faults using a range of technical knowledge including scope to make minor alterations to work processes to achieve quicker or better results with little or no supervision.
  • Promote a safety culture and environment of operational excellence through continuous improvement and fostering an accident-free culture.
  • Decide methods of repair and materials needed for the task, the serviceability of equipment, to assist decision-making by Line Manager relating to operational or process matters considering Health and Safety aspect.
  • Work in workshops, noisy generator house, accommodation quarters, commercial buildings, and hot and humid kitchens.
  • Quality diagnostic work and/or remedial work involving the tracing of faults/malfunctions in complex equipment in water treatment production including bore hole, transfer, dosing and distribution, electricity generators and power control panel and minor repairs on boiler and CCTV.

  • Perform Preventive Plant Maintenance (PPM) and reactive work as directed by the management team.
  • Complete logbooks, as required.
  • Ensure all tasks are completed within the required deadlines as set by Key Performance Indicator (KPI) measures or the management team.
  • Proactively report any need for parts, materials, or issues with your work at the earliest opportunity.
  • Always wear the correct Uniform and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), where required, ensuring it is in good condition.
  • Immediately report any unsafe acts, incidents, or accidents.
  • Complete any required training as directed by the management team within the specified timeline.
  • When communicating with clients or customers, maintain a professional demeanour that supports a positive impression of DIO (Nepal).
  • Respond to emergency call outs as and when required.

Applicant should have served a minimum of 3 years as an Electrician, Semi-skilled labour for electrical works, or have served a recognised apprenticeship as an Electrician or be able to demonstrate experience up to the equivalent standard. Candidate’s preferable technical qualification is three years Diploma in Electrical Engineering. Candidate should have a minimum of CTEVT’s level II building electrical qualification. Candidates trained on BS7671:2018 (2022) IET Wiring Regulations will be desirable qualification.

You should have good written/spoken English and Nepali language skills.  Proven experience, qualifications, and training is preferable for this role to deliver the job responsibility effectively and efficiently. Any other multi-skilled qualifications will be an added advantage. You will be assessed on your competency through an assessment including written, practical and interview test. College level education is preferred (+2) or SEE with extensive work experience, technical skills and qualifications.
